Hi

halradtke,
There are many possibilities, It could be, But If you have a spare

cord, have the Power cord replaced or checked first.Have it unplugged

for a while to drain the capacitors inside for voltages.

Troubleshooting these Plasma sets would be best if you have

equipment , tools , service manual and a technical know-how to handle

electronics servicing, or have someone to help you.

have a check on Y Sustain Board should you wish to troubleshoot.

Just be careful with the Ribbon Cables connecting the Y-Sus to

the Y -Drive Boards.

Good luck!

Regards,

palaboy

here are some of the reasons why i insist on having a service manual

    http://www.fixya.com/support/t4691717-re...

the flashes will indicate what maybe the possible cause of the symptoms you are having.

It can only be well diagnose with the aid of the Service Manual

the service manual can be downloaded here:

    https://www.completeservicemanuals.com/P...

    only with a fee.

I would rather not advise buying the power supply board , not unless we are sure it is really

    the one causing the failure.

if after , having a visual on the Board , that you cant find any bad capacitor

    like one of these:

then you may need to check for other voltages.

Here are your guide for Voltages on the power supply

As you read over the service manual you can find the true replacement on the board which you

    are looking.

There are many replacements on line, but I cannot guarantee it will solve your problem,

not unless verified and cross-checked on the service manual.

Some have solved their problems by just replacing the two capacitors on the power board

some includes the Y board , hope you understand what I mean.

    Rommel Cana May 06, 2010

it uses the same service manual

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana May 07, 2010

    Additional info:

These sets comes with a built in microcomputer inside.

    All are based on Voltages.

If ever it detects a fault on startup it enters into protection mode.

The voltages for your unit is specifically designed for that Model ( see the image above ).

Should you decide to replace the power supply, I suggest measuring first what output voltages

    your TV have.

Then , if ever you have the replacement , you need to compare the output voltages reading

of your former power supply and the new one.Neglecting to comply with the specifications

will just /might produce undesirable results. ( Vs and Va settings )

While you are ordering , you may try to check the foil side of the board, there might be

cracked solder joints on the two capacitors ( with uf and volts values )

( if there is no bulging ) and have it resoldered.

6 blinks means a fault on buffers and Y board.

you may also need to discharge the main capacitor with a 2K 5 W resistor , should you need to check

    the boards.

This is a bad capacitor set on the power supply.
Take the power supply out - and have them replaced if they are bulging/leaking.

1) Turn TV on (TV clicks) and green light appears - wait TV will either start or
2) TV clicks then shuts down and goes to blinking red lights <error code> (3 - I assume in your case)

3) Pull plug on TV (back or at supply) wait for light to fade/go out on the TV
4) Plug in again (press on button if necessary) - wait for TV to start or if it clicks unplug immediately (don't wait for error code to flash) repeat from step (3)

My belief is (in the case of 6 blinking lights and bad capacitors) is the necessity to slowly build up the charge (capacity) within the defective capacitor(s) until they allow the 'protection' circuitry to proceed. It's rather ironic that (at least in this case) it's the so called 'protection' circuitry that's preventing the TV from starting.

Thanks!

I was attempting to find some service information for you, however, I am unable to find the model number that you have provided us with. Phillips usual numbering scheme would have 42PF####A/37, so there would be only 4 numbers past the PF designation. Could you please double check your model number? There should be a plate on the back of the TV with your model and serial number on it, close to all of your connections. Hopefully I will be able to find some information. The system will advise me as soon as you send me a reply. Thank you for allowing us to assist you.

It does not sound like a power supply issue to me. On most Philips plasma's I have seen power supply failure produces 7 blinks. However I would like to know whether you hear a clicking noise when the screen is flickering. Please provide this info so that we can continue with the diagnosis.

That actually does sound like a power supply issue. The possible source of the problem is faulty capacitors that are taking longer to charge than usual. A component level repair might be possible. Also if its only 2.5 weeks old then why do you want to fix it? You can use the warranty to get a replacement or did you buy it used?

Ok.. then. You should look for capacitors that are leaky or bulged at the top instead of being flat. It is the most frequent cause of the problem you have mentioned. Replacing them with those of exactly the same values should do the trick.

I told you where to look but you were not interested in my solution. If you change your mind let me know and I will see you through this.

Ok. If that yes was for me then do you have a multimeter which is capable of checking capacitance? If yes then begin by testing the 120V rated capacitors for blown ones on the power board. Its a 90% chance that you will find something. Try it out and let me know.

The blinking light signifies to a repair technician with capacitors or circuits are having an issue they can diagnose the problem via the amount of blinks in between pauses however it will require a technician and some specific tools and schematics to fix and it may be cheaper if its no longer under warranty to purchase a new one

Hope this helped

Most likely the power supply capacitors are going bad.
Opening the TV and replacing any swollen caps may solve your issue.

I have a Philips 50" Flat HDTV model 50PF9431D/37. Problem with screen turning on. I get sound. I get 9 quick flashes in red. Then after unplugging and plugging back in several times. It then blinks...

I have the exact same problem! I have it hooked up to a power strip now to unplug it by flicking of the power strip and waiting for the red light to go out then I turn it back on while Channeling up 10 X's and then down and up until it comes on. I listen to the sound of the switch which it comes on. I turn it off if it is faint and then back on and channel up. Crazy process but it's been working. It takes about 10 minutes everytime to get the TV on until I get a tech to come out and look at it. The capacitor keeps a charge which is why the light is flashing with a code for 60 seconds./JJ
