Make sure the outside unit is running. If it isn't make sure it has power going to it. If it has power and the fan and compressor are running then get the refrigerant charge checked. If the fan or compressor or both aren't running, make sure the thermostat is calling for air then see if the contactor is pulled in. If it is check your capacitor. Let me know what you find.

Sounds like a problem with the drain or the outdoor unit. Clear the drain, make sure fan is running on outdoor unit.

How do I purge air from my Jeep's cooling system?

which engine?
after a there will be air.
on all cars. all engines and the solution (no pun) is the same.
overflow tank cleaned and filled with 50% AF to the mark.

fill it with cap off RAD, dead cold.
the run engine until coolant starts to expand and overfill the neck
cap it, off, and drive around the bock 1 to 3 times.
stop
let it cool
then off the cap see air there?, bingo, repeat above until no more air.
on cars with hoses higher that rad cap (rare cars, or very old jeeps 1988)
we had to do more magic, the shop manual reads like a horror that year. jacking bumper up high bla bla. but not this car.

    Cooling doesn't stay on

The outside and inside coils may need cleaning. Clogged coils cause excess pressures and heat of the freon that can cause safety switches to shut er down. Eveen a faulty power relay in the outside unit.Otherwise you may need a serviceman to locate the cause.

We have a goodman air conditioning unit it just doesn't seem to get cool. It is only 3 years old. We changed the filter and reset the thermostat. What could be the problem. It sounds like the...

I am assuming from your problem description that the unit is cooling some but not as good as normal. If that is the case then the system has lost some of its refrigerant charge.
Recharging the system will correct the problem but only temporarily.
The system has a refrigerant leak that must be found and corrected for a complete repair.
Be sure to get a reputible( ask other people for a reference based on integrity and skill) heating and air contractor/technician. I would suggest staying away from big companies as their technicians are poorly trained.

If they say you have a refrigerant leak , have them show you exactly where it is and have them squirt bubble solution on the leak so you can see it.

If your system is only 3 years old then any major parts are under warranty. This does not cover labor.

    Hope this helps.

Had unit for 4 years do not use it awhole lot put

Good job, on cleaning the air intake filter. Some folks overlook that. Since that helped some, I believe you need to clean a little further. Like the cooling coils and the cooling fins for the compressor. But, before attempting any cleaning turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit from the wall outlet.

You can clean the coils with warm water and liquid dish washing liquid,. Rinse and dry thoroughly. When dry, apply a light coating of WD40.

The fins can be cleaned using an old toothbrush and a vacuum cleaner that has a hose and brush attachment or crevice tool.

Completing this Annual Type Maintenance should provide significant results.

The unit is a 12000 BTU energy efficient model purchased from Lowes 3 years ago. It is not cooling. The fan runs fine but it just isn't cooling. The filter doesn't need cleaning. What could it be?...

The compressor is probably not running.

The Main reasons that this will happen
1 - A bad run capacitor (silver or metal capacitor)
It’s either shorted, grounded or open.
If it’s shorted a lot of times it will bulge out, (sometimes slightly)
2 - A bad start kit ( plastic capacitor and Relay connected to it )
The capacitor is either shorted or open
The relay either has an open coil between terminals #1 and #5
    Or the relay is stuck.
Any time you change the capacitor or relay you should change
the other, especially if they are over a year old.
3 - A loose, burnt or disconnected wire
    4 - Wired wrong
5 Compressor is open (windings burnt open)
6 Low on charge not getting enough cooling back to compressor, (Feel top of compressor to see if it’s hot it shouldn‘t be)
7 Some compressors have a black plastic overload under the compressor cap which could be bad.

AC not cooling during the day

Your AC cooling efficiency is low when he ambient temperature is high and naturally it cools well when the outside temperature drops.

Please remove the filter on the grill and try to clean it under the tap water and after removing all the dust fix it back to the unit. This would increase the cooling efficiency of the unit.

Your AC is also five years old. Please avoid frequent opening of doors or windows.

Ensure that the exhaust fan and the blower of your unit are functioning normal.

The technician might not have done a proper job in fixing the area where the refrigerant would have leaked out. Please check the refrigerant pressure to ensure that no further refrigerant leak has taken place. Or even servicing your unit he would have punchered the tubes resulting in very slow leak of refrigerant resulting in no cooling or less cooling. It takes around a month to feel the pinch of it and the refrigerant. One fine morning after sometime the unit will run and it would start throwing hot air instead of cool breeze!
