Question about Sony VAIO VGN-S460 Notebook

1 Answer

My sony viao laptop has gone into sleep mode or just wont start up. I have started it and have seen the viao splash screen and then it looked like it was gonna load but went to a black screen now I cant get it to shut down again so I can press alt f10 to go into recovery mode. What should I do? Is there a way to get it to resart? I have already tried to take out the battery and unplug the system and hold the start for 30seconds and it didnt work either.

Try to restart your laptop in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING. once you are in safe mode with networking change power settings from power option in control panel. Try SYSTEM RESTORE. Still you face problem press F8 when you turn your laptop on. You will get advance options. Select LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION.

I find sleep mode nothing but trouble, eventually corrupts window files over extended use, go into power options, go to stand by and select never and click apply, next go to hibernate "top right" and click, make sure the check box is clear, if not! remove check and click apply and restart your laptop.

I have a sony viao and trying to do a recovery on it want booth are start in normal are safe mode

If you have not burned a set of recovery disks, I believe when you boot up you can get to the recovery partition. During the boot with the splash screen on (the thing that says VIAO in the begining), start pressing the F10 or F12 key. This should bring up the boot options and allow you to boot from the recovery partition and restore the computer back to factory settings. If you burned the disks for the computer, just place disk one in the drive and boot.

Hope this helps and it was what your were looking for.

  • Hello chaleebradsh, the "Monitor" as well the Computer have "Power Saving Modes," [Sleep, ScreenSavers, and Hibernation]; so what you want to do is "Change the way the Computer / Monitor Sleeps!" From the Desktop Screen, click on the "Start Button," next in the [Start Search Window], type: power. In the next [window] that opens, you should see, from your point of view; a "list" in the (left column) "Change when the computer sleep, the wording may be different, but it will be clear enough. Now all you have to do is change the way the Computer and Monitor "Sleep, or Turn-off." If the Monitor have its own "settings;" just find them by the [button on the monitor], and do the same thing as above; but I'm sure the computer will take care of both.
