Re: I put the disk in and it will not spin
It sounds like your motor has burnt out or there could be a problem with the gear box. You can buy the replacement parts on ebay. If you cant fix it yourself you will need to buy a new system or have a professional do it.

well mabey it may need dusted or mabey the copper strip is ripped or damaged or it could be the laser stuffed or it could be your disk isnt the correct format or the disks damage. If the back of the disk is purple it may mean it aint the right format. Just a few possibilities mate ;)
I bought a PS3 yesterday and had to take it back - when entering a disk it would get pulled in and start to spin but would only go in still leaving about a half inch sticking out - it would spin for about 15 seconds and then stop. I had to take it back and get a replacement which worked fine.
when putting disk in check by listening if you can hear the disk spinning at high speeds or a clickin noise, this means the laser is having trouble reading disk, try cleaning with a cd laser cleaner you can get these from comet argos pc world etc,if this does not work the laser may have burned out,one of the main faults with playstation and xbox is the fans that cool down the system also draw in dust through the vents wich inturn soil the laser lens hope this helps andy
well .. i have changed my mind and thought i will help you.. can you tell me if the disc is spinning? If its not then try this.. The disk is not spinning because the flip top is not making contact
with the sensors. Make sure the flip top is installed correctly. If the
sensors are still not pushed down, boot up the swap magic disk and
GENTLY put pressure on top of the flip top and see if the disk begins
to be read. If it does, this means it is definitely the sensors. Like
in my first post, open the ps2 and put a piece of thick tape over the
rear sensor and a piece of tissue paper in the hole where the front
cover opens. This will solve the problem.
Hi, is it a slimline one cos sometimes the switch that tells the console that the doors shut breaks. U could try pushing it down gently too see if it activates but i cant be responsible for breakages or possible blindness if you look into the laser. LOL
My sons playstation 2 went to browser and after reading the only one solution of putting a cup on top of it, we did try that but we found that the problem was the silver piece had moved, so after we moved the silver piece toward the middle toward where the disk goes, then closed it, and put a little pressure on top and you could feel it turning , then we opened it back up, the silver part had moved back again, but the playstation started back working then without any pressure.. so my suggestion is move the silver part close to where the disk goes.and it will move itself back....It sure worked for us..I was beginning to think money down the drain for this playstation 2....thank God it worked so maybe it will work for you...
