Check your device manager for dvd drive .chekc it is found or not.
open your dvd lock in right side of laptop.then reattach it.

also go to bois setup and give first boot option to dvd.then if u have bootable disk then try to boot with dvd.
then if u boot the sys then your dvd working properly.
then your os driver problem try to uninstall driver and rstart sys.

Check system then press f1 key

Try this:

Instructions
    • 1

Insert the Toshiba A60 recovery disc into the CD/DVD-ROM drive.

    • 2

Power off the Toshiba (with the recovery disc still loaded inside the optical drive).

    • 3 Hold down the "F12" key, at the same time hit the "Power" button to turn the system back on. You don't have to hold down the Power button, but keep holding the F12 key.
    • 4

Release the "F12" key when the" In Touch with Tomorrow TOSHIBA" screen is displayed. This will open up the BIOS.

    • 5

Change the boot order by using the arrow keys to select "CD/DVD ROM" icon in the menu. The Toshiba will now boot from the recovery disc and restore the system. Follow any additional on-screen instructions.

DVD/CD-RW drive not reading dvd disks, but plays audio disk fine. when i put the dvd disk in, i hear it spinning for a little while as if it is trying to detect it then stops. when i look in my computer...

They look the same, but CDs and DVDs are two different media, and a combination drive essentially has two separate optical systems in one package. What sometimes happens is that the laser that reads and writes one kind of disc stops working, while the other format isn't affected. If the DVD problem is happening on every disc you try, the failure is complete. Sometimes in its early stages some discs read fine but others don't. Sometimes the problem may occur on dual-layer DVDs only but not single-layer ones. In any case, there's no way to repair the drive other than by replacing it. You can find replacements online for most laptops, but they can be expensive. If you don't mind carrying an extra piece in your computer case, you can get a USB external drive and just leave the bad one in place.

Hi,
You will need the recovery discs or the XP installation disc generally the recovery disc are delivered with the laptops if you do not got it then you have to buy it from Toshiba. Then you have to boot the laptop with that disc by pressing F2 at the Toshiba logo screen and selecting the cd/dvd drive as the boot device.

Dvd-rom trouble

Hi, first of all, I'd check if you have the problem with CD/DVDs burned (written on a CD/DVD writer) or you have it also with original CD/DVDs, which would be weird. Depending on your finding to the above point I'd do one thing or another, but to me does not look like a driver problem. I'd check with Toshiba support if there's a new firmware for your drive, this does improve the media the device can read and correct problems like the one you mention. To know the fimware version you're using, open device manager and go find your drive, right click on it and choose details tab. Normally the firmware revision is the number at the end of the instance. Good luck mate !
