I cannot retrieve my mails or send emails, what is it

do you have an internet connection ? what email program ?

Doing a little detective work can save you a lot of extra hassle. If you're having trouble sending email from clients like Outlook, Eudora and other POP3/IMAP software, please check the following issues:

Correct Passwords

Verify that all password information is correct.

We get many requests that simply turn out to be a password error.

When cutting and pasting be sure to watch out for extra spaces.

Mail Server (SMTP) is Offline

Your server could be running and serving both POP3/IMAP but not providing SMTP service. On many systems, the program responsible for POP3/IMAP is not the same as the one for

open an email click tools accounts mail then on the right select properties you should see your email adress then click on servers you will see

POP3 should have mail. with your provider ie: mail.bigpond.com
and outgoing mail the same mail.bigpond.com

SMTP. As a result, you may be able to check mail but not send.

Try restarting your server or email service from your control panel.

ISP Blocks

An increasing number of ISP's are blocking port 25, the port used to send email.

Many of the major ISP's, including NetZero, MSN, Earthlink, AT&T, Comcast and Verizon, block port 25 in an attempt to control spam. If your ISP blocks port 25, then you will be unable to send email out of your server.

This is not a server problem but a direct block by your ISP. We can often work around these blocks by configuring your mail server to listen to additional ports.

You can test if port 25 is blocked by using a telnet client to connect to port 25.

If you connect successfully to port 25, you will see your mail server's banner.

This will list some information about your mail server.

If you cannot connect to port 25, then either your mail server is down or your ISP has block port 25.

ISP blocks are becoming an increasing problem.

Generally, once password issues have been ruled out, sending email is all or none. If the mail server is down, no one will be able to send email.

ISP blocks will only impact those clients behind that ISP's network.

Server Load Throttling

Many SMTP servers will begin to reject email if server loads are too high.

If you have root access, you may want to login and run "uptime".

This will tell you your current load averages.

Many systems stop responding to email requests if loads exceed 12 for a five-minute period.

If the load does not decline to below 4 within a few minutes, then you may have a service performance issue.

SMTP Authentication

Most email servers use one of two mechanisms to determine if a user is permitted to send email.

The first method, "POP before SMTP", requires that the user first check their email before they can send.

If a user cannot check their email, then they will not be able to send.

Try restarting your POP3/IMAP server and testing again.

The second and preferred method is called SMTP Authentication.

This method should be used if your system supports it.

Current Ensim, Plesk and cPanel servers all support SMTP AUTH.

To use this feature, the user must check configure their email client to use authentication for sending mail. In Microsoft Outlook, there is a check box called "This server requires authentication."

That box should be checked.

hope this helps

Cannot send email but I can receive email. What is the problem? Yahoo email

Hello, ''Wanda'' sorry, for your problem. If you're able to receive but unable to send mail using your POP mail client (such as Outlook), please review the possible troubleareas below. SMTP Server In the fight against unsolicited commercial email (spam), some Internet service providers require their subscribers to send mail through the ISP's own SMTP servers. If you experience problems sending email, please contact your ISP to determine if it requires different SMTP server settings. Youwill need to use the ISP's SMTP server in place of Yahoo!'s SMTP server when configuring your POP mail client. The following is a partial list of ISPs that require you to use their SMTP servers. If your ISP is among them, try replacing the Yahoo! SMTP server with the ISP server in your POP mail client settings, or consult the ISP's help files. If your ISP does not appear in the list below, please contact your ISP directly for more information. Thanks

What iis the outgoing/incoming server for gmail?

Google GMail Settings
The Google GMail service offers email client access for retrieving and sending emails through your Gmail account. However, for security reasons, GMail uses POP3 over an SSL connection, so make sure your email client supports encrypted SSL connections.
Google Gmail Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port 995)
Outgoing Mail Server - use the SMTP mail server address provided by your local ISP or smtp.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port 465)

Can recieve e mails, cannot send or reply to in-comming mail.all messages come up as failed delivery.no problem when first connected

1. Change the settings in your email software so that the email account you're using designates an Outgoing Email Service that your internet service provider won't block. Your internet service provider should provide you with the address of an acceptable Outgoing SMTP Mail Server. This information is often listed on their website; if it isn't, call their technical support and ask them the address of their Outgoing Email Server. Then go into your email software and change your current Outgoing SMTP Address to the one your ISP requires.
2. After you designate a SMTP address not restricted by your ISP, you may still receive the following error:
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
Now you are reaching the Outgoing SMTP Mail Server, but it won't process your request without further authorization. You will need to go into your Email Software and find the setting that indicates that your Outgoing SMTP requires further authorization. Select this setting and enter the username and password required by your ISP (or reqired by who ever is the administrator of the Outgoing SMTP Mail Server that's not blocked by your ISP). For example, at the time this article was written MSN Internet Service's SMTP Address was: (secure.smtp.email.msn.com). However, this email server won't allow you to use it unless you send your MSN username and password along with your request to send email.

I cannot send mail on my MacBook Pro (Intel) using OS X's Mail program at home using my 2wire; it works at the office on Cable. What's wrong with my settings and is it software or hardware?

You may be using the wrong SMTP address for the Outgoing mail server address for your email service.

If you are not sure what your SMTP Outgoing Mail Server address is, then you can reference this link
below, to locate the Outgoing mail server address of your current email service provider

Link: POP & SMTP Email Server Addresses
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In regards to checking your mail settings in Mac OS X Mail you will need to perform these few steps:

*Launch Mail
• Click on Mail name and select Preferences from
the drop down menu.
• Now select the Account tab.
• Locate your affected email account from the side
bar and from Account Information, make sure
your Outgoing mail server address is correct.

I am using a .Mac account as an example,
but the same principal applies.

Now if you do find that the Outgoing mail server address for your email service is correct, then the issue may be with the SMTP server for your email service.

One way to determine SMTP functionality however, is to go online and use the web mail page for your email account and send out a test email.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I would also recommend you make sure your Macbook Pro also has the most current version update.

Apple usually has bug fixes in each of their version updates for the Mac OS X Mail application, as well as other built in Mac OS X applications.

If you are still unable to send outgoing mail, contact your service provider to get more assistance and have them check your SMTP server address, authentication and connection with their Outgoing Mail servers.

I want to send an email when a blue window pops up but dont know if my yahoo is pop3 or imap server? i also need incoming and outgoing e-mail server HELP

Incoming mail server settings

•POP server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
•Use SSL
•Port: 995

Outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings

•SMTP server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
•Use SSL
•Port: 465
•Use authentication
•Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com", for example, “testing80”)
•Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (for example, testing80@yahoo.com)
•Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

Troubleshooting tips

If you still can’t send Yahoo! Mail from your mail program, you may be accessing the Internet through an ISP that is blocking the SMTP port. If this is the case, try setting the SMTP port number to 587 when sending email via Yahoo!'s SMTP server.

Your email program gives you the option of either deleting your Yahoo! messages from the Yahoo! server after downloading them into your mail reader, or leaving them on the Yahoo! server so you can see them online in your Yahoo! account, too.

No email can not be sent or compuse or reply

After deleting and recreating an account in Mail, you might not be able to send emails even if you can receive them. When you try to send a message, this alert may appear:
"Cannot send message using the server smtp.xxxxx.com"
This happens if the Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) server, used for outgoing messages, was incorrectly entered with the first account even if it was correctly entered for the replacement account.
Products Affected Mail
Resolution You should first verify that the network connection you're using is the correct one for the ISP that you want mail to communicate with.
  1. Open Mail.
  2. From the Mail menu, choose Preferences
  3. Click Accounts.
  4. On the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) pop-up menu, choose Edit Server List.
  5. Delete all entries for the SMTP server that is mentioned in the error, and click Done.
  6. Configure the current SMTP server by clicking Server Setting.

Note: If you need to use multiple SMTP servers for multiple Mail accounts, see this document.
  7. Send a test message to your email address.
