Screen dark on monitor

1. you possibly have a malfunction inverter board which is internal to the PC.
2. this will require a qualified tech to dismantle the pc and replace the component board that connects to the video card that is integrated to the mother board.
2. if the video card is not working this will require a new mother board to be installed.
3. there is a cable also in some models that connect the video display to the mother board and this cable could have be dislodged and the results is no screen.

Comp does not turn on. green light off but goes on when mobo disconnected

Test the power supply in another computer.
If that works, the next thing is to check the mother board. Remove all daughter boards from the slots. Remove all memory, disconnect all hard drives, cdroms, etc.
Make sure there is nothing plugged into the mother board except the video cable (if it is on-board video), if not, then make sure you have a good video card plugged in.
Again with no memory, no boards except a video card, if needed, and the power plugged into the board.
Turn on the power, and watch the screen. If it works, then you should get a notice that there is no memory, no hard drive, and so on.
If that is the case, then proceed to install one item at a time to isolate the problem. If it is not the case, the the mother board is probably bad. One other thing to check would be the CPU.
If you get no notice with the above, then the cpu could be bad. Check it in another computer, if possible. This should tell you what the problems are or is.
In the above cases, either the cpu or the mother board can be isolated to see what is bad, if any.

Problem with creative 5.1

you should not have a problem running the card, check these:
1 is the sound muted? control panel sound and audio dev.
2. is the card properly seated in the slot?
3. are the speakers working and plugged in the right port
4 control panel, system, hardware ,dev mgr look in the list for sound, video and game controllers see if you have a problem there, unknown device memory conflict or other.
5 does the mother board have built in sound? if so you will have to disable it in bios before you can use another card.
hope this helps and good luck

THE SCREEN SMEARS NAD SHUTS DOWN

Hi eakesj:
A number of things here should be checked.
First shut down and remove all cards, and power connections to all the drives such as cdroms, hard drives.
The power supply should also be looked at and tested for correct voltages on each wire. This can be done with a voltage meter.
Turn on the power and see if you can get the machine to start to the bios screen. (this will work if you have a video processor on board, if you have a video card, you will need it to use the monitor).
If that will not work, then you have more problems than you thought at the beginning.
If the mother board will not work at this point, then you have problems with either the mother board or the cpu processor. There is a possibility that there are problems with the memory modules.
So, if you have only one memory module, then I would remove the memory, carefully clean the contacts, (a clean pencil eraser can work, if you are careful, and do not press very hard) and then plug the memory back in and try again. Also if you have extra modules of the same type, try one for testing.
If you are still having the same problems, then the mother board or the cpu is the problem. At this point you should consider if you want to continue and repair or buy another mother board of the same size. If you buy another kind of mother board, remember you will have to re-install your operating system over the original one to get the complete setup and the bios to work correctly with it. Many times this can be done, but you risk losing data (you will lose all data in MY DOCUMENTS), and may have to completely re-install the OS. You may want to install the drive in another computer as a slave and back up any data you want to save before you proceed.
If you decide to continue with your original mother board, and still have problems, then the cpu or the mother board is suspect. To test the cpu, either test your board with another cpu which is compatible, or check the mother board with another mother board of the same exact model.
Hope you find the problem.

No live video and bios screen

ok.so far so good..but have you checked the ramm dimms and most of all the video card?look carefully to see the integrity of the moather board like condensors and other faulty signs.
by the way?what tipe of mother board do you speak about?
after checking these and still not working you should reduce the fault to 3:
1 motherboard itself
2ramms
3 video
tell me the result please..we may find the problem after all..
bye
