Question about Goodman GMS90703BXA Heater
Starts up but cant se fames inside when it starts anymore then just shuts off. Is there a pilot light that might have gone out?
Your furnace is equipped with HSI(Hot Surface Ignition) ignition system. There are also many safety features incorporated in these furnaces. When the thermostat calls for heat, the inducer motor comes on. This feature is called "pre-purge". Pre-purge circulates fresh air or combustion air into the furnace and pulls it through the heat exchanger and the secondary heat exchanger and out throught the pvc exhaust pipe. This takes anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds. lets say there is a restriction in the exhaust pipe(example: bird, mouse, squirrel, tennis ball), there is not enough push behind these inducer motosr to push anything but exhaust fumes out. There is a pressure switch connected to the inducer which will not close if there is any sort of blockage within any of the parts listed above. We have had a terrible year this year with pressure switches sticking. You can hook up a manometer to the pressure switch hose to see what type of pull you are getting. There is usually a pressure rating on the pressure switch.lets say the pressure switch and ventor motor is fine. That would lead you to the ignitor. Pretty common for these to break. If it is not the ignitor then you may have a bad board. There should be a printed circuit board in the bottom compartment of the furnace with a LED on it. You should be able to get a diagnostic flash code off that board. Let me know what you see or what you found out.

From what I saw when I googled you furnace it has a hot surface igniter. It only gets hot when it's time to light the furnace. You should be able to see it glowing red when the furnace is trying to light. The furnace has a safety feature which shuts the gas valve when it doesn't detect a flame to prevent gas build up in the furnace. There are other safety features also. If the draft inducer motor isn't running the gas valve won't open. Overheat switches some of which have to be reset manually. Adjust the thermostat until it calls for heat then observe what is or isn't happening in the furnace. It will go thru a purge cycle first. The draft inducer motor will run to do this. After the purge the hot surface igniter should get hot a glow, then the gas valve will open and the burner will light. Let me know what you find.
