Question about Dell Inspiron 9300 PC Notebook

1 Answer

I replaced my HD on Dell inspiron 9300 and it won't recognize the new drive. The new drive was also purchased from Dell and was one that was compatible with the computer. It's saying there's no bootable HD even when I return the HD to #1 in the BIOS

I had the windows dink in the CD Drive. It won't find the HD to install windows. Won't even get to the point to create a partition.

I just removed the HD that Dell said was compatible by entering my Service Tag # and it is smaller. I don't think the pins are reaching far enough in. Enough of a difference that the entire size of the new HD (including pins) is equal to the size of the old one not including pins. Going to call Dell now.

    oops.... disk

no, the pins are not even the same. The orig has pins all the way across & the new one have a break in them & blocked off with plastic that is molded on.

It probably has found your new HD, you need watch the screen as you attempt to boot. Failing that enter the bios (usually " hit DEL to enter setup" appears on the screen. Don't change anything but just check to see if the bios has detected a hard drive.

Now .......... the reason why it won't boot is because you have to re-install windows onto the hard drive.

I've just had a look at Dell's instructions and there's no picture of the HDD interface.

Dell have a happy knack of using proprietary interfaces with their products.

Without seeing what you're dealing with, I don't think I can help further other than to say, nearly all connections are key coded, ie they can only connect 1 way.

So are the connectors the same, in the right way and fully home ?

    Good luck.

They've sent you the wrong drive, they've sent one with a SATA interfacy, you need one with the older PATA interface.

My computer will not recognize the battery. Runs OK on AC.

Since the system is not seeing the batteries the apparent fault is the motherboard connection for the battery. If under warranty , contact Dell, in not, you can try and purchase a replacement motherboard on EBay.

DST Error (1000-0146)

This error is a hard drive failure, your only option is to replace it and reload your operating system. It's easy to replace, the hard drive is located on the side of the machine and is held by one screw. After you get it out, the rest is self explanitory. Here's a link that shows breakdown diagrams.
