Take off the cover of the old pressure switch. Most models of well water pressure switches have a cover that simply snaps off, but some require a screwdriver to loosen a screw first.
Check the pressure switch's settings against the printing inside of the cover. If that solves your issues you are done. If you are still having problems, move on to Step 3.
Turn off the power to the switch by flipping the breaker. Check to be sure that the power is off with a voltmeter.
Remove the old switch making sure you note which color wire is in what position. You may want to mark the wires with colored electrical tape so you know which switch location to reconnect the wires.
Bring the switch to the hardware store and find a replacement that covers the same pressure gradient as the switch you are replacing.
Install the new switch according to the manufacturer's directions. Be sure the mounting and wires are in the correct place. Use wire nuts and a screwdriver to complete the installation.
Flip the power back on to the switch and test to make sure it is working properly. Be sure the settings match what works for your system or what the manufacturer recommends. Remove all electrical power from the circuit feeding the air compressor. Locate the correctly rated pressure switch on the air compressor's storage tank. No valve must be installed between the switch and the air storage tank. A short pipe nipple is used to conduct the air from the tank into the pressure switch. Typically a ¼-inch diameter pipe is pre-installed on the storage tank for the pressure switch.
Use the Teflon tape and install two or three rounds of the sealant tape over the male pipe threads. Screw the female fitting of the pressure switch onto the pipe nipple. Tighten with the crescent wrench. Remove the top cover of the pressure switch.
Observe the set of four contacts, small copper discs, on the interior of the pressure switch. The contacts are electrically connected together on the topside of the copper discs. Each set of discs has a corresponding screw connector. Think of each set of contacts like a light switch. One set of contacts will be used for each wire to be switched. Strip back the four wires, two wires coming from the power source and two wires going to the compressor motor, with the wire strippers. Remove 1 inch of the plastic insulation to reveal the bare copper wire underneath.
Use the screwdriver to connect the two wires coming from the power source to the two outermost screws of the contacts. These screw terminals may also be marked as "line." Connect the other two wires, going to the compressor motor, to the two inside screw terminals on the pressure switch. These terminals maybe identified as "load". In a 240 VAC feeder circuit the wires do not have to be mated to the switch. In a 120 VAC circuit the white neutral wires must be connected to the same set of contact screw terminals. Connect the bare copper wire or green insulated wire to the green screw on the metal frame of the pressure switch.
Replace the cover over the pressure switch. Apply power to the air compressor circuit. Switch the pressure switch to the on position.

Wont shut off

Hi ethang...
Try to adjust the pressure shut off switch...sometimes they can also get a hole in the diaphram and leak enough air to cause a problem, if you cannot adjust your pressure switch to shut off then you will need to replace your pressure shut off switch it is defective.
Please take time to rate me

Hi,I got a Ingersoll Rand type 30 model 234 compressor. It looks good but it has no motor.I'm thinking like 120v,3horses?,but not sure about rpm.any help would be nice.thanks

According to the information you provided your looking at a 10 HP motor at three phase. Do you have three phase at your location? If not I would look into getting a single phase compressor. If you do want to get it going I would notify your local IR dealer so they can get you the right Model number, RPM, Pulley and Motor Frame Size to match your unit.

Please read below....Jim...if this helped you please send me a positive response...Thanks!

I just bought a used ingersoll rand ss3L3 and need to know how to adjust the pressure regulator switch. Also how to set the high and low limits.

if you want more pressure out your hose use the outlet pressure regulator. if you want more or less air put in the tank you can try to adjust the pressure switch. different models are adusted in different ways. there may be a screw between the points that make contact. adjust it up or down to see the direction you need to go. some of these switches won't let you adjust or id they do it won't be much.

Cuts off with no reason

hi mate when the reach there working pressure e.g.150psi/10bar they shut off and then when the pressure drops to a pressure of e.g. 100 psi 7 bar they automatically start back up and pump back upto they working temperature or if it dont start at all it could either be a faulty pressure switch or a fualty star delta starter if its 3 phase 415 volts if its 240volt there are only a pressure switch which will be faulty get a sparky in to sort it out there buggers to mess with 415volts 240 volts easy
