One of your pulleys is frozen and the belt is just going around it without it turning. Pull the belt out, remember where it goes, and find the pulley that is frozen. Get it replaced. Hope this helps.

Look under the the left foot rest, there is a belt installation diagram. It will show how to install the belt correctly. It is real simple to replace belt, but the belt must be installed on the pulleys, correctly or it will fail, every time. Sincerely,Brad Locke

My 22 hp craftsman riding lawn mower gets really hot after10 to 20 minutes and backfires and loses power

You may have a mouse problem. Check the shroud (motor cover) to see if there is shredded paper or other material under shroud. If the mouse shreddings get in the fins on flywheel it will cause the engine to overheat. Remove shroud and clean underneath.

Is the belt tight enough? Is it aligned to all the pulleys? Make sure these are ok and I am sure you will find the problem.

My deck mower(craftsman 917.271530)keeps shredding deck belts

You either have a bad bearing on one of the pulleys or one is loose and moving up and down drawing the belt when it is engaged. I would pull the mower deck off and go through it .

Check by hand for proper installation, verifying that any belt retainers and covers are good. I had a belt drop low and rub on me, did a heck of a job on a new belt.

How do you adjust the pulleys on a 42" 20 HP craftsman tractor mower. The belt burned off and when I replaced it with a new one the new one began to shred

There is no adjustment on these pulleys. Sounds like the belt was over the blade pulley brake arms or idler pulley guide. They will shred a belt in nothing flat.

Craftsman 19.5hp 42 drive belt shredded

most likely the belt was put on the wrong side of the belt retainer clips on one of the two pullys. I've done the same thing more than once. Make sure on next belt there are no sharp edges touching anywhere and while engaged or not.

Shredding belts

first make sure the belt is not hitting anything when the blade is engaged (engine off), the if ok remove belt and look in pulley grooves for rocks or chips., then run finger all around groove to make sure there is no catches or spurs. If that is all ok then with belt on and engine idleing as slow as possible and blade engaged look and see if pulley is wobbling, BE CAREFULL !! look at the engine pulley first then with EXTREME CAUTION look under deck from opposte side of chute. ( Check with deck at highest setting)
