You can only change ur region codes a few times then ur drive becomes locked to the last reset.then youll need to reflash ur drive with firmware.theres a program u can get(free)called any dvd which gets around region codes.
I personally would reflash firmware.this sets drive to "0" which is all regions.
simple precedure.locate firmware,download it,write it to a cd,insert cd which then reflashes auto.remove cd.

From Hp knowledge base:

Most DVDs include regional codes that are embedded into the disc data. These codes prevent DVD movies from being played in regions of the world that are different from where they are sold. If you get a Region Code error, you are trying to play a DVD from a region that is different than the one your drive is currently set for. The region of your drive may be set a maximum of five times, after that the region becomes fixed. Since the region code is stored on your DVD drive, reinstalling the software or recovering your hard disk will not affect the region setting. To change this setting, follow these steps:

  1. Insert a DVD from the region you want set on your drive.
  2. Launch the DVD player software and click Play .
  3. If the DVD is from a different region than your current drive setting, a message will come up asking if you wish to change the region.
  4. In the Region Change window, you will see several circular buttons next to the regions. The ones that are highlighted white are the ones available on the current DVD you have inserted in the drive. Select one of these buttons and click OK .
  5. Your region code has been changed; you can now play the DVD.
If you are using a different DVD software, setting may be different from the above.

Regards

I think you can change that by
1.right-click on your DVD and select properties. In properties window
2.under Hardware tab, select your DVD and again click properties button below.
3.Here you endup at DVD properties windows, go to DVD Region tab, from here you can change your region by selecting country and click ok.

I need to change the region code from the US to the UK for my HP Pavillion dv2000 laptop. The hardware under properties says its a slimtype DVD ADS8A1H ATA device? I have already gone past the 5 allowed...

Hello,

If you have used the 5 allowed changes, then your device is locked at the last one. You may be able to unlock it so it works region free. There are tools on the internet that allow you to do this.

The free way is to just install videoLAN (VLC). If yo use videolan as your video player, it should play any dvd without needing to modify firmware or "hack".

If you want to try to modify your locked DVD region codes, a good place is www.videohelp.com. Here is the direct link to the regon page:

Laptop dvd drive region locked in R1, need to be mostly R2

keep in mind you can only change the region 5 times and cannot change it anymore after that (regarless to windows reinstallation , its a hardware thing) you might wanna consider purchasing "dvd region free" or use a 3rd party region free firmware to bypass that

dvd region free - http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm
3rd party firmware - http://www.rpc1.org

I need to change the region from 1 to 4

You have to go to the device manager of the operating system. List the hardware. Right click on the actual dvd drive and select the area that you want to change the region to. It will display the region.

Changing the DVD Region code

Legally, the only way to resolve your issue is a new drive, the region code in the drive has been locked in the firmware and cannot be changed by normal means (You can search google for DVD region Code Cracks, but it is not recommended no legal)

Antipiracy laws mandated a limit to the number of times the Region code can be changed (5) and if you are going to be playing a lot of media from different regions, then get another drive and set it to one region (and mark the region on the drive) and use this for the other

DVD Player region coding changes

You can only change the region code 4 times then it locks on the last change.
There are some firmware upgrades that can change the drive to region free, if you can screw it up or put in the wrong frmware upgrade then the DVD drive will be a piece on junk.
I suggest you install a region free software that will allow you to play and region DVDs.
Go to www.dvdidle.com to get their Region-Free software, it is not very expensive.
