Question about Dell Latitude X200 Notebook

1 Answer

PC won't boot

I had this Pentium 4 desktop, the problem is when i try to boot up the CPU fan runs only just for a while (about 5 seconds) then shutdown. Sometimes it boots up but many times it won't. What could be the problem, is it the power switch or the motherboard or maybe the CPU itself? Power supply seems to be working.

Processor may be heat up check it

  • Dust acting as a thermal insulator and impeding airflow, thereby reducing heat sink and fan performance.
  • Poor airflow including turbulence due to friction against impeding components, or improper orientation of fans, can reduce the amount of air flowing through a case and even create localised whirlpools of hot air in the case.
  • Poor heat transfer due to a lack of, or poor application of thermal compounds.

My dell d600 if i on it after 5-10 minutes it will automatically off waht is the solution

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

The fan to the left of your RAM slots needs to spin, it may be the reason for your problem. If this is the CPU fan then you may have a dead CPU.

Contact a computer technician for repair or claim warranty support.

Won't start but CPU fan vibrates but will not go full blast. Intermittant

It appears you have a faulty CPU fan and it is causing the CPU to overheat and shut down.
I suggest you replace the CPU fan. remove any dust from the heatsink and put new heatsink compound on the CPU/heatsink.

When i try to boot it up, the monitor, keyboard, and mouse don't

So, this is a Desktop unit. My advice is this; Take the cover off and try to dust off as much webbing inside as possible.Make sure you take off the power cord when working inside. You will see a fan near the middle of the motherboard. This is your Heatsink/Fan for your CPU. I would bet many pennies this is overheated and may not boot again and if it does it will be unreliable. With your fingers and everything out of the way, plug the bare unit in and turn it on. Make sure the fan on top of the CPU is running. If not, quickly shut it off. I will help you more as you write back and we will get it running.

Does not boot, after turned off suddenly

check to see that it is not overheating. If cpu fan is not blowing (could be frozen up) or if the fan in the power supply is clogged with dust, the computer may be overheating and refusing to some on. If it is dust, arrange to blow it out completely. take off cover and try to start the machine, the fan should turn on the CPU.

    Problem Regarding Booting

due to the increase in temperature inside the cpu for the protection of the motherboard and components it might not be getting started ..

this happens if the processor fan is not running properly or if it stucked due to some dust or obstacles ...

try cleaning it after separating heat sink and processor ....

after refitting the processor trying booting it should work ....

if needed replace the processor fan ..

When you say power is going to the mobo, are
other fans and lights turning on? You also may have forgotten to plug in
the large ATX power cord from the PSU, or the smaller 4-pin rectangular 12V
power cord. Is the correct local voltage setting for your PSU selected (110
    or 220)?

CPu fan turns for 1 second and then stops.

If all was working fine before, then, you have either not connected the cpu power cable, as is sometimes required other than being powered by the processor socket, or your power supply unit is not pentium 4 compatable and is unable to power the processor.
