Question about Kenmore 73503 Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Last week my 2003 Kenmore 73503 would not cool. I replaced the relay(#67005560) that plugs into the compressor and it fixed the problem. Today it stopped cooling again. Could it be something else, maybe compressor? Any help would be great

Hi, on occasion your compressor windings can be damaged from the starting components going bad. Or like you said you changed the relay that plugs with the compressor which can in turn damaged the starting components from them continually trying to start the compressor. Either way it sounds like you have a bad compressor which will probably the problem. You would probably be looking at 600 bucks or more with parts and labor for a new compressor.

Take care

The refrigerator doesn't cool . The fan comes on in freezer, there is a clicking noise that comes from the back.

Unplug pull away from the wall and remove the cover that covers the compressor. While unplugged feel top of the compressor. If too hot to keep hand there I would believe you may need to replace the start relay=> OVERLOAD/RELAY W/CAPACITOR
Please do not leave plugged into power as the compressor is trying to start and getting very hot. Too much of this will cause the internal overload to remain open. and early compressor failure.
. 67005560-2 Start Relay With Capacitor And while inside please insure the fan runs when plugged in at compressor. Here is your location=> Part 4 in photo is the part below=> MZD2665HEW Compressor Components

What is the model number of your refrigerator? The relays you replaced are "production relays" and for some reason the production relays don't seen to stand up very well. The service replacement would be better. Also, is the cooling fan on the unit running?

Hi,
Unfortunately he did all anyone can do besides replacing the compressor.
What you hear buzzing is the compressor trying to start but not being able too either because of a motor failure or the compressor part breaking and jamming everything so it cannot turn.

Make sure if you decide to replace the compressor that you get a complete price. The refrigerator may not be worth the cost to replace a compressor.

Everything your repairman did was what I would have done, and the 50-50 thing was about correct also.
I am sorry that you were on the wrong end of the 50 this time :-(

I would suggest replacing the overload / relay , which is plugged onto the side of the compressor , with 2 or 3 wires on it . The part # is 67005560 . It is easily replaceable , by pulling the refrig out , and removing the bottom panel , to gain access to the compressor .

Model maytag pbf2255hew freezer and refrigerator not cooling compresor on and off every 3minutes

Pull the refrig out , and remove the rear panel . Is the fan cooling the compressor working ? If not ,replace the fan motor . If it is working , I would say the overload/relay is bad . Pt # 67005560 . This is the piece plugged onto the side of the compressor , with 2 or 3 wires going to it . Easily replaceable and not at all expensive , if you change it yourself .

Frig and freezer not cooling

it is possible that a start relay has gone bad but more likely is that the compressor has seized up. if the unit is under 5 years old most likely the comp will be under warranty from sears. peyton

Kenmore 106.53603202 stopped cooling making a clicking sound

The compressor is locked up. The clicking noise is the thermal overload turning the relay off and on. The only solutions you have are installing a hard start capacitor. Ther local appliance parts supplier will have this. Its easy to install I personally have had a 50% success rate with these, but its relatively cheap fix if it works, as the other solution is a new compressor. Good luck.

Kenmore 73503 Stopped Cooling

Why was the breaker replaced for this circuit in the first place? If it was replaced because it was tripping out the problem may be related to the compressor. In any event the compressor should be covered by warranty. Contact the place of purchase for service.
