Question about XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8600 Graphics Card

Trying to get 2 monitors working

I am trying to get 2 monitors working without success.
O/S XP Pro
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT
Main Monitor : LG L194WT
2ND Monitor : BENQ FP91G+

Nvidia control panel sees both monitors and gives me following options:

1.Only use one display (single)
2.The same on both displays(clone)
3.As one large horizontaldesktop(horizontal span)
4.As one large vertical desktop(vertical span)
5.Configured independently from each other (dual view)

I have tried selecting options 2,3,4, & 5

When I try to identify via settings only a large number 1 appears
on the desktop when selecting either monitor whereas I should be seeing both 1 & 2

Both monitors work fine when independently installed via the left hand port, but neither monitor works when plugged into right port.

Does this imply that the video card is faulty or do I need to enable something?

    Hello.

    Thanks for the reply!.

Both ports are DVI and I use the VGA adapter, as I
have mentioned the right hand port appears not to be
working as I can see and use either monitor in the
left port but neither will work in the right side.

I do not have any DVI cables as they are costly so
I am unable to plug direct from DVI 2 DVI ports.

What surprises me is that thye video card works fine
with either monitor as long as I only use left port
and I wonder if the right port is faulty and if so
    how can I check it.

    Thanks.

    Hello sgtsnake,

I appreciate your reply, however I finally took the maching to a
computer technician who confirmed the right port was at fault
so I returned it to the manufacturer and they repaired it at no
charge, I only had to pay postage both ways.

I am happy to report that I now have 2 monitors working on the
    card.

    Thanks again.

    Mike.

Plug your LG display into the DVI port and the BENQ into the VGA? it may just be a random compatability error.

Well M8, your english is perfect!

Just a fast look on the system of your i would guess that your problem is the 330w psu!

Thats way to low for that gpu-card!
If u can, try another one whit at least 550w! i think that will solve your problem.
If you dont have power enough the computer will freez or/and shut down.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck to you M8!

Try making sure the video card's Display Settings have the Screen Resolution set to a level that are compatible with your LCD monitor. Try starting at 800x600, applying the settings and testing them, and moving up slowly until it doesn't work anymore, then stay at that same level.

Please try connecting monitor to known working CPU and determine if problem is with CPU (Graphics card etc) or monitor.Signal cable can also be a problem.

You shouldn't have wasted your money on that card. Just try replacing the cable first.

Is my Motherboard compatible?

Try to find out what the AGP voltage is on the motherboard.
Some graphics cards use 1.5 volts and some use 3.
If it's a 1.5 volt AGP slot and you plug a 3 volt graphics card in, it either wont work or you could permanantly damage both card and motherboard.
