Comcast boxes can either have component cables or hdmi. sometimes the red and white cables come loose. check the cables on the TV and the box. If you are using hdmi, let me know and I'll walk you through some steps...

Hum from tv

try unplugging any equipment that you have attached to the tv one at a time, such as dvd players, surround sound, cable box, etc. also if you have a cable box attached, try adjusting the volume on it. if you have everything unplugged from tv and it still hums, then it may be a tv issue

Since i switched to comcast cable and added an on demand dvd box

you have a problem with the cable box. If you have a dvd player hooked up you can play a movie as a test, but I'm sure you will find that the dvd plays fine because the audio plroblem you are describing is a common issue. Also you can try to unpug your cable box power for thirty seconds that will reset it and it may solve the problem.

Significant volume decrease when using Comcast cable box

you might have to talk to comcast about that most signals are low for reasons of conservation of bandwidth, they may also be sending 5.1 which tends to be lower volume and adds surround in.
mono is always loud, and that is what you get with 75 ohm coaxial cable (single screw in ).
hope this helps.

When i try to connect my xbox 360 to my Vizio hdtv it doesnt not recognize the connection. I have tried replacing the cord to no avail

I have a Vizio 37' tv with an Xbox 360 and it works fine. I am a Cable repair tech, hook up the xbox using the composit cable first RCA these are the red white and yellow cable to a non high def input on the tv, if that works check the settings in the xbox, there is a screen that will allow or enable HD quality pictures. Also check the Xbox cable itself. at the Y there is a small swiitch that goes from componet to composit you can only get HD if you use the Red Blue Green cables, then make sure you have the TV input set to that input other wise you will have only a blue screen. If that does not work, Hell, call the cable company if you are a customer, they should send someone out to show you how to connect it, and they might not even charge you, we don't, but I work for a smaller company, not ComCast or Cox, If you want to email me you can kml39@yahoo.com, good luck

I have a Vizio 42' and a cable box and there's a constant humming

I think I had the same problem. This is how I fixed it.

I have my vizio 42 hooked up to a Harmon Kardon surround sound, and the digital cable box. Essentially, I can adjust the volume 3 ways - through the tv, cable box or av receiver. The humming sound happens when you have the volume maxed out on the av receiver and not the cable box.

For example, the sound level on my Harmon Kardon goes from -10 (lowest) to 10 (loudest), with 0 being the middle ground. The buzzing was happening when the Harmon Kardon was set to 10, and I was using the cable box volume to adjust the sound. To fix it, I turned down the volume on my receiver to 0, which may be about 50% max volume of the receiver. Then, I switched devices and used the volume on my cable box. This got rid of the static I was getting. Hope that helps.

Samsung lcd ln46a550pf3 no sound from hdtv reciever

ok your tv does not come with the very best sound, you have to get a receiver 7.1 or you can use the optical wire , that's if the system you are using has that option.

Vizio speakers make a buzzing noise

It's not the speakers. I usually hear of this problem when hooked up to an HD cable box. You can adjust the volume on the cable box and also on the TV. I'll bet you don't have this problem when watching a DVD.

If the problem is what I think it is, your HD Cable box is set at a really low volume while your TV is set to a rather high volume. Try setting the TV volume to around one-third, then set the volume on the cable box until it's as loud as you'd ever want to hear it. With the TV at such a high volume, you're actually amplifying any stray electronic signals that the wires might be picking up, and the above solution will fix that.

Good Luck.
