Hi there here the tricks to format your phone. first remove the battery, then insert it back and press & hold key Shift + Ctrl + Chr + F at the same time wait till pda light on and shows nokia after that it will ask if you,
want to format or not.

You can format your Nokia 5000 device by typing: * + 3 + call + Power on. Before the device is reset, you need to provide the lock code. The default lock code is 12345.

Please try by restoring your factory. Menu>Setting>Restore factory setting. or press this code *#7780# and if you want to format it than try this code *#7370# else please check your message center number from your friend or family that they are using the same service(s) like vodafone, aircel, bsnl, airtel. from there check their message centre number whether it's the same number or not that's in your cell-phone. If it's not same than correct it and try.

It could be because of in-correct Message Center settings or because of low signal strength. Try checking that up before resetting your phone. Take the sim out, use another network's sim and see if the problem persists.
If it is still there go to the Settings > Restore Factory Default Settings.
