Napoleon Fireplace propane Pilot won't light main burner even though gas flows in?

  • I'm going to assume your fireplace has a pilot light.
  • Follow the little holes in the burner that lead to the pilot light.
  • Make sure the pilot flame is pointing directly at the closest burner hole. (adjust if necessary).
  • Often, you will need to sprinkle a layer of "glowing embers" in this area. The embers will help the gas travel to the pilot light and ignite.
  • Always start your propane appliance on "High" never "Low". Cold propane likes to drop to the bottom of the firebox and accumulate until it reaches the pilot (this is called delayed ignition). Keeping it on "high" will help the fuel travel over to the pilot without buildup.

I have a 3 burner CaptnCook gas grill. The middle burner has a single flame when I try to light but does not light the whole burner row, just right at the front only. The right and left will not light at...

The problem lies with the grill's regulator and how the gas tank valve was opened.

To solve this problem, first be sure you have adequate gas in the tank. If that checks out OK, do the following:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank.

3. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).

4. Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and set the burner
control knob on HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for being set on HIGH? If so, light
the remaining burners the same way. Do all the burner flames look correct? If so, you solved
the problem. Remember, to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.

If that didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly. It runs about $30.00 at any home center or hardware store that sells grills & accessories. If you replace it, turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling!!
Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Viking grill burner is clogged and fire is shooting out of knob. How do I clean my grill from excessive grease.

Is it still under warranty? I'd call Viking or a qualified repairman to fix it. If your burners are clogged, the flames should be coming out the venturi tube and flaming towards the gas valve knob. If the flames are coming out of the gas valve itself, then it will need to be regreased. If the burners can be removed without too much trouble, soak them in the sink with hot water and dishwashing detergent. Be sure to remove the knobs, so no one turns the gas on without the burners connected. If it's difficult, call a repairman.

I installed a Napoleon Gas fireplace model BGD33NG . I get pilot lite but no flame . Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong ?

Make sure the pilot is turned to the ON position, otherwise you might have a broken thermopile which will need to be replaced as it controls the burner.
