Ok, with all gas things good operation is dependent on the Regulator, often they seem fine, but cause all sots of problems. Then we have Jets, these need to be cleaned out periodically, and also the thermostat. Your burners aren't making enough heat, this is because it's NOT getting enough, or the, Correct, Gas/Air mixture. As related this can only be in one of a few places. What you should also do, is get a Service manual, for your exact make and model, similar to the ones i have given you links to, they are all very similar, in a lot of ways. but really you need a manual depicting your unit. Please use the links below and download these manuals and they will help you troubleshoot. Please remember ALL SAFETY procedures, whenever working on this, thank you.

Kenmore Water heater, Model # 153.339462, Pilot lights, burner burns for approx. 10 - 15 minutes then both go out. after which it is more difficult to light the pilot. I need ideas please

Clean combustion parts, clean air intake, get more air to water heater and see if problem continues.
Look at color of burner flame and pilot flame: if flame has yellow-and-orange instead of clear blue flame, then combustion parts need cleaning.

Pilot and burner problems can be caused by bad thermocouple, thermocouple not sitting in flame, weak pilot flame due to dirty tube or low gas pressure, air in gas line, no draft up vent, backdraft coming down vent, dirty combustion parts, clogged air intake, insufficient air, insufficient air quality, hot attic, bad gas control valve, etc.

How do you change the heating element in a hot water heater. We have hot water until we are in the shower about 10 minutes.

If you have 10 minutes of hot water when you take a shower then the hot water element and thermostat are working correctly. What size is your hot water tank? How many litres?

Rheem Power Vent model RN 21-VP40-1 gas water heater no hot water but venting runs. Is it the ignitor or the thermostqat? About 10-12 years old.

it may be the thermal coupling that is bad for the pilot light. if it goes bad the flame will go out. replace thermal coupling. so if the pilot light is out then it will not heat water. or turn burner on.

Erratic water delivery from gas hot water heater

I can understand if it was an electric water heater doing this with a faulty thermostat, but a gas water heater with erratic heat control is very odd. I am assuming this is not a boiler, or an instantaneous or tankless water heater, correct? And you have not had any issues with the pilot going out or it shutting down? Is this an old unit? I've seen some water heaters with so much sediment in the tank, that it crackles and sputters every time the burners come on, which affect how well it heats the water and gives it a slower recovery time. What temp setting do you have the gas control set at? Maybe it's set to low? I'm curious about the burner. When it is calling for heat, have you watched the burner light up and stay lit for long periods of time? It should be a strong blue flame and there should not be any black soot build-up in the combustion chamber around it. It 's certainly a lot easier to diagnose appliance problems when you can actually see it in it's installation, as there may be some unknown factor that may be adversely affecting it. Douglas

Gas hot water heater will not automatically heat water, i have to manually start the burner to heat the water

Sounds like you have a bad thermostat. You can change the thermostat, but if the heater is more than 8 or 10 years old you might be better off to replace the entire heater. Thermostat replacement is easy:
1 turn off the gas 2 drain the heater 3 unscrew pilot, main burner, and thermocouple lines from bottom of thermostat. 4 unhook gas line from thermostat. 5 unscrew thermostat from heater tank. Use pipe sealer when you install new thermostat, and gas line fittings. burner and thermocouple lines seal on a taper seat and do not need sealer. after reassembly check for leaks with soapy water, not a match, light the pilot and turn up the temp. The heater may sweat quite a bit while it is heating up the first time, this is due to the cold water on the inside and the fire on the outside. some water may drip in the bottom of the heater and you might think you have a leak, but let it heat up completly, if the water is still dripping after the tank is hot then you need to find the leak.

Bradford White hot water heater - burner lights only 30 seconds

The slightly warm water makes me think of a thermostat problem. The fact that the heater is 10 years old I wonder how hard your water is. Calcium build up kills water heaters. But the yellow flame you mention could be the results of dirty orfices. May want to have a Pro look at that.

Parkray Cumbria efficiency problem

Some circulation pumps have a 3 phase mixing valve (cold, warm, hot) to regulate the water pressure in the building; no way to know unless you trace the plumbing. Basically, the hot water temperature could be lost because the circ-pump is cooling it with the cold water supplied to it. This is used to balance the pressure (aka Pressure Balancing Circ-Pump), so heater is really working overtime to heat the water. If the pump has two in and one out that's more than likely your problem; but you should consult a "old-school" plumber in your area.
