Question about Sanyo PLV 70 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Sanyo Projector We just replaced our light bulb. The filters are clean yet without warning the cooling fan will get pretty loud and run hard for a couple of minutes then stop, then randomly it does it again. Any suggestions, we love our projector!

What is easy to spot? I can see the fan through the back vent, is there more than one fan I need to investigate by removing the case? Are you suggesting I might need to replace the fan? Sorry your post was a bit confusing.

Hi there

First make sure that your lamp timer & filter timer ( if available ) is reset.

If the problem still occurs , take a flashlight and check if your fans is running a normal rate when the unit is switched on.

It's easy to spot. If you can't spot it with the eye - take a thin piece of paper and touch the fans slighly - you'll hear the difference immediately - in wich case it woul need replacement

    Hi there

Sorry for the confusion. What meant is that it is quite easy to spot the fans and whether they are running or not.

Yes there is about 3 fans in the Projector and will have to take of the top cover to see them all.

I hope this will help you.

what about the Projector Condition leds: POWER, WARNING and LAMP REPLACE? How are they lit? For good measure you should also clean the air filter (the projector might not be getting enough air to cool the lamp)

When I turn on the power light comes on , then the warning light comes on and the projector fails to start

I would start off by making sure that the fans and filters are cleaned. The easiest way to do this is with a can of compressed air that you can buy at any office supply store. If that does not solve your issue, than it would sound as if your bulb is burnt out.

Power indicator /red/ and warning led/red/ are lighting after ea 15 sec. a lamp never start and fans goes in OFF mode. I checked power supply lines S5V,S-5V,S16V on the Main Board . I checked unit lamp...

If power indicator light red and warning indicator red flashing than according to user manual :-
The projector has been cooled down enough and the temperature returns to normal. When turning ON the projector the WARNING indicator stops flashing. CHECK AND CLEAN THE AIR FILTER.
Experience:- 1. if the temperature is very low than temperature sensor maybe misbehave.
2. If anyone fan not working
so please you check fans.
(If lamp or lamp ballast unit faulty than after a time period the lamp indicator light ON not a warning indicator. I experience many times if any fan in projector are broken or jamed the temperature light if present otherwise warning light ON or flashing)

Likely the projector has seem some hours on it before being sold second hand to you. A worn out metal arc lamp will wink out like this when it is at END OF LIFE. As the lamp operates, pressures build from high voltage arc current passing through the pressurized bulb. More and more voltage is required to keep the arc struck and operating as temperature rises. As the bulb ages, it requires more power to maintain the arc in the glass envelope bulb. It can rise to a point where it overruns the ability for the power supply in the projector to safely maintain the arc and it winks off, only the fan is left running. When the unit cools, the arc re-strikes and illuminates the lamp.

In short - replace the bulb, but buy TWO of them. One to fix the projector, the other as a spare on hand while awaiting another replacement bulb down the road. These metal-arc lamps typically run anywhere from 50 to 100 hours depending on power supply design and cooling ability of the projector as a whole.

Everything seems normal but the lamp will not

check lamp door and filters (if you have them). if they are not closed or in all the way, the lamp will not go on. otherwise, the ballast may be bad and needs replacing.

The projector keeps shutting off during use. What may be the problem?

I make sure the air filter stay cleaned and no vents are blocked I have had my projector 2 years. I had to send it in last year. And, it went out again today. I hate this projector and would never buy another one. My other projectors lasted 4 years before I had to even change the bulb. I use it everyday all day. They didn't tell me if it was the bulb or the fan. But again today it just quit while I was using it.

Warning lights

Just so you know guys (and this procedure is not for the faint hearted!). I had the slow one second red warning light flash. I checked the bulb, which was find and I left it powered off for 48 hours. My projector is no longer under warranty and would have cost me over £300 to have it looked at. I ventured inside to inspect the boards, once I removed the main board to check the power supply I heard movement from one of the light ducts. It took me a while to removed enough to discover the fixing screw which holds the imaging cube in place (which is between the 3 light ducts and the projector lens) had come out (!?) and was rolling around inside the unit. This would also explain why sometimes I could not focus my unit properly. I remounted the imaging cube, put the whole thing back together and PRESTO! My projector is working again.

Sanyo plv z4 shuts down

call sanyo tech department and they will help you increase the fan speed to cool the unit. This is done with the remote so it was pretty easy. Make sure your filters are very clean first (use compressed air or a co2 canister. Have not had a problem since, my units run on average 8 hours a night and have not shut down.
