Question about Sanyo PLV 70 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Sanyo Projector We just replaced our light bulb. The filters are clean yet without warning the cooling fan will get pretty loud and run hard for a couple of minutes then stop, then randomly it does it again. Any suggestions, we love our projector!

What is easy to spot? I can see the fan through the back vent, is there more than one fan I need to investigate by removing the case? Are you suggesting I might need to replace the fan? Sorry your post was a bit confusing.

Hi there

First make sure that your lamp timer & filter timer ( if available ) is reset.

If the problem still occurs , take a flashlight and check if your fans is running a normal rate when the unit is switched on.

It's easy to spot. If you can't spot it with the eye - take a thin piece of paper and touch the fans slighly - you'll hear the difference immediately - in wich case it woul need replacement

    Hi there

Sorry for the confusion. What meant is that it is quite easy to spot the fans and whether they are running or not.

Yes there is about 3 fans in the Projector and will have to take of the top cover to see them all.

I hope this will help you.

My Sony VPLHS-20 has original bulb, now just shut off 50 mins into the SuperBowl. No fault light, in fact, no lights showing on the display at all. Bulb has around 1800 hours. I waited 10 minute, red...

Pretty sure it the bulb as most are rated at 2000 hours; but also check for full air flow - clean filters etc. Bulbs can run hotter as they age, so air flow is more important, because there is an inside heat sensor that will shut the machine down.

Projector shuts down after a couple of minutes with lamp and temp lights flashin, is this a fan poblem and can i replace the fan?

This probably the fan is not cooling down the temperature of the high intensity bulb. Due to overheating the bulb will shutdown. Get a correct specification fan to replace the aging fan.

KCMS145JBL-1 stopped heating. It overheated, shut down, then eventually lights and sensors came back on. Still doesn't heat.

It's likely the magnetron overheated, and when its thermostat tripped, all power was interrupted for safety until it cooled back down.

You likely have a failed magnetron, which is sometimes due to a failed internal cooling fan or clogged filter.

Your owner's manual will help you on locating and checking the filters. Grease filters can be cleaned, but charcoal filters cannot, they must be replaced.

When I say internal cooling fan, I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually.

I'm instead talking about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you microwave.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the turntable and stirrer won't work, and magnetron will soon be destroyed.

Sometimes the cooling fan will not run after the cooktop lamps have failed. A surge from the filaments shorting can cause damage to the control circuit board, resulting in odd operation from lights, fan, or turntable.

We regularly repair these control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

We have a sound clip here of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it is NOT shorted or burned looking, it's probably fine)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
(continuity can be good even though mag is bad!)

have you cleaned the air intake cooling filter.. if not do so. it is located either side low you will see a couple screws and the actual filter.. if the filter is ok then the power supply is getting ready to fail...best to get it checked out by a serviceman......

Howdy,
YES, the TV was telling/warning you that Lamp was going out soon so you would not be without the use of your TV while you get a Lamp.

Thanks for using FIXYA, BIG IRISH.

My computor screen is black pc tower has green light on abut no fans are running what has gone wrong . i took caseing off and cleaned all dust but plugged back in and no fans

The first thing I would check is the power supply. It sounds like it has just enough power to turn on some lights, but not enough to power up fans, motherboard, CPU, etc. So either test the Power supply, or just purchase a new one. They are pretty cheap these days.

Koolspace 600 Problem

You'll need to replace the fan. The original fan bearings wear our after a couple of years. It's pretty simple to drill out the rivets and replace the fan. I suggest you replace all four with ball-bearing fan units.
