Have you checked to see if your wireless router has the latest firmware updates from NetGear? If not, go to netgear.com to get the latest updates. This can also be accomplished in the router remotely.

Can't get online without WiFi why

If you have a laptop, there are three ways to get "online" (internet). The first is a internal wifi adapter connection to a wireless router that has internet access. The second is with an Ethernet cable attached to a network that has internet access. The third is with an aircard that has connection to a wireless phone service that you have data service with. Otherwise there is no way for a laptop to get online just by itself.

Have you tried the laptop on another wireless network? It should release and renew it automatically when you reboot the laptop without having to reset the router. And it sounds like the router itself is glitzed. But i would try using the laptop wireless on another router somewhere and also try connecting some other wireless device to the router to analyze the problem. You could also try setting the laptop's ip to a fixed ip number instead of obtain automatically (it must be in the same range as the router - first three numbers needs to be same as the router's) and see if it's the dhcp that is the problem.

A few years ago there were a lot of glitzy linksys routers ...

My asus 3f3 laptop suddenly stopped connecting to my wireless internet and the troubleshooter says it detected a problem with the point of access or wirelless adapter. what does this mean?

This means that either your laptop's wireless adapter was turned off or it failed. Or, if none of these is the case, it cannot connect to the wireless access point for some reason; may be a weak signal, or the wireless access point was switched off.

The issue here may not be the laptop but the router strength of it's wireless radio. Do you have another laptop or a freind who can come over and test his connection? The DV series laptops have pretty decent antennae and wireless cards. Try to update the drivers for the WLAN card, make sure the antennae leads have a good secure fit at the ends where they attach to the card. If the router is a couple to several years old, it may need the firmware updated.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.
