Question about Casio Music

1 Answer

I have a CTK-518 Casio Keyboard unit, second-hand. The DC Jack went out on it--the metal rod that makes the connection with the adapter simply broke off. So I purchased a new part and installed it, first uninstalling the old part that was soldered onto the board. Initially it still wouldn't work with a normal electrical connection so I then soldered the ends of the new part to the board, also to no avail. I have also checked the integrity of the board itself by connecting--successfully--the unit powered by battery power to an amplifier and indeed getting sound transmission thereby. I therefore conclude that the board itself appears good, but I still have no clue as to why the DC Jack is not allowing electrical connection to occur. Thank you.

You probably got the WRONG type of jack. Thes jacks have different sizes, including the pin. You probably got one with a smaller sized pin.
These are really a pain to make sure you got the right one.

If you can, verify the pin diameter with a caliper.

ALSO verify the adapter is putting out power FIRST. The forces that broke the jack MAY have destroyed the plug on the cord from the adapter or brolen the cord. Use a voltmeter to verify operation.

If cord is broken, get new plug and replace the plug on the cord that plugs into the unit.

What do I need to do with my Casio CTK 700 which will make it run on batteries?

If you turn it over, you will see the battery compartment. It runs on 6 AA batteries. Here's a link to the manual. Instructions are on page 13.

Keyboard not powering up. Want to change the fuse/s. Don't know where fuse is located.

There probably is NOT a fuse and usual cause is problem with the adapter or the power connectors. Broken solder of the connector in the keyboard is common. Broken cords on the adapter is common as well.

The adapter has a problem... likely a poor connection of input power that briefly contacts building up some voltage that is then stored in the capacitors in the adapter which then discharge quicklly when you turn on the Casio. The adapters with FIXED blades OFTEN have problems contacting the connections in wall receptacles and extension cords. You may need to bend the blades slightly or use a better receptacle like connector. IF your adapter has a three wire cord from it to the wall receptacle, those SOMETIMES don't seat well...

Can i change the DC 9V jack on my CTK - 541 music keyboard by myself?

If you are careful you can. Replace with exact same jack. Your jack has a switch contact that connects the batteries when NOT using the power adapter. You need to find one with exact same pin spacing and layout.

Search for one at Digikey.com an Mouser.com

Here is link to the power jacks, supposedly with the switch contact... compare the photos and spec sheet to match your connector.

I have this casio CTK-491 Electronic Keyboard that is not working on its power suppie. It did work at first then i had to wiggle the plug to get it to work and now it stop working is the a part or easy fis...

This could be ay number of things, but assuming that the power supply is fine (the cord isn't broken on either end or down the length of the cord) then it'll probably be a loose connection in the keyboard.
With CTK models if you unscrew the back (not the metal plate) you can open it up, have a look where the connections are going from the power supply socket and re-solder to the board etc if nessesary. Also if you have some strong glue then glueing the adapter in place on the PCB as well as the headphone socket would be a good idea as these connections are used quite a lot and the parts do come loose.

Connect usbtocomputer

Hello - I am too a personal owner of a CASIO CTK keyboard, a little older than yours (model CTK-601) a great keyboard BTW, and I have connected it to my computer successfuly.

There are 2 ways of connecting the keyboard to your PC......Using the MIDI outputs and a special MIDI to gameport adapter - if you have a very old system and have a joystick port (D-sub shape) on your soundcard or PC, then you use that cable. Of course this is legacy and stopped existing in newer computers, now USB is used.

Only the professional line of soundcards have direct MIDI inputs. For most of us, with consumer soundcards and PCs, there are no MIDI inputs.

The good news is that newer keyboards support USB MIDI and features direct USB connection - so all you have to do is install the drivers that are provided with your keyboard, usually a CD, and follow the instruction to install the USB drivers for your casio keyboard, BEFORE you plug in the cable (very important!) once installed you reboot and connect your keyboard using a USB cable

Now if your keyboard is older and has MIDI outputs, like mine for example, you will need to purchase a MIDI to USB adapter, those have MIDI cables in one end that plug to your keyboard and the other end a USB connector....... I don't know about the rules if I am allowed to post websites, but the product i'm using is the Uno from M-Audio - in google do this search:

"m-audio"uno

(exactly as shown above with quotes, and uno outside quotes)

Your CTK-810 may alreayd have a USB connector on it, as it is a newer generation keyboard - I am pretty sure it does - what you will have to do as stated above is located your bundled CD-ROM and install the USB drivers - you will need to purchase a USB cable (seperately).

Power input needle snapped on Casio CTK 1000

The answer is repair shop if you don't have tools or experience with soldering. If you do it is simple to take it apart and take the old supply jack out. Take it to an electronic parts supplier so they can match a new one up for you. Make sure that the holes in the circuit board are clean and free of broken pins. Make sure that the traces leading to the holes are intact. Do not use too much heat or they will separate from the board. It might help to take the adapter with you as the jacks and plug have to match in size.

Casio CTK 2000- won't work with adapter

If you have a volt/ohm meter try checking to plug that goes into the keyboard for voltage on the DC setting. If there is none, you will have to replace the adapter. Be sure to plug the adapter into the wall when you check it or you will get no reading. If that is not the problem, then it is probably the receptacle for the DC end of the power supply. What happens is that if they get bumped the solder connector on the circuit board breaks. If you do not feel comfortable fixing this yourself, you will have to find someone who is capable. Hope this helps.
