If the battery is charged
and camera works on good on spare CF card. ?
and your dead one gives initialization error ,rear error?]]
Camera FORMAT DEAD on bad CF card.

then it is corrupted. never edit files on camera from PC ever!
Page 83 IN Manual says so.
i forgot after 8 yeas of owning mine then I rename a folder. oops
a dead, 4gb micro drive. (s602 sees it as 2gb is normal)

This solution works 100% on a drive or flash card.

in WIN7 or xp
open the command box.
S602 secrets CF MicroDrive , etc.

find USB , to CF reader.
plug in the CF Mircodrive ( mine is 4gb and camera sees 2)
mine shows up as D:

on the Run window type cmd , enter.
DOS box opens.

type format D:/FS:DOS (make sure D is you CF drive and not something else !!!)

this will take days, no just 1/2 hour.
near 98 %
it will say are you sure, 64ksectors, not comp with newer os.? Yes
type Y , enter

type in volume label. FujiS602

last is optional, i like having labels , cuts errors.

never rename files from pc or folder names.
our you kill disk and need to repeat all above again.
read page 83 in manual, free dl.

put CF micro drive in camera , bingo, 100% works.

this works to for messed up actual CF flash cards to.

jtgh.

PS: this DOS format command used the default, and works just like stated above FS:FAT

    cant edit , darn.
i typed FS:DOS this is not correct , type Format X: /FS:FAT ,where X is your drive.

formatting with the camera is childs play , the problem is if that dont work.

EG : you renamed files , bad. or folders ,bad or deleted files thru the camera USB cable.
or you unplugged the flash with camera on , or some other way and corrupted the data.

btw the microdrive does not work at high altitudes. ( but mine x2 running or 6 years no prob.)
    good to about 1/2 atmosphere.
hard discs have flying heads. go too high they cant fly. fact.
do not drop it or the camera.

ive worn off all the words on all buttons on mine. and see still takes fabulous photos.

in the run box type CMD
in the dos window type format /?
    see the proper syntax

Install the card, turn the camera on, go into the menu and find format. It will tell you that when you format you will also erase the contents of the SD card. Click yes and format the card. Thats it. Joe

SOURCE: Fuji Fine Pix S602 Z Memory card formatting problem

Hi,

The problem is that you have bought a card the camera was not designed to take.
Unfortunately the maximum card size that camera supports is only 2GB.
I'm afraid you have to take that card back and have them swap it for a 2GB CF card.

Regards.

Fuji Fine Pix S602 Z Memory card formatting problem

Looking at the original advertisements for that camera, it is only advertised as having memory cards up to 1Gb. You might find that the problem is that the camera doesn't support a card as big as 4Gb. You can probably check this in your manual.

Card initialization

If you have a memory card reader on your computer you may need to insert the cameras memory card and then goto My Computer and right click where the card is located and click format.

Memory card

Because this camera only understads FAT16 formatting, it does not accept any card larger than 2GB so your best bet is to use the current crop of standard 2GB CF cards, most newer ones (usually 16X and faster) are alsa fast enough for continuous VGA video as well. The best brands IMO are Lexar and Sandisk, but avoid the WA enabled cards, this camera can't make use of WA, it just slows the througput down.

Alternatively you may partition your 8GB card to a 2GB partition, but the rest of the card won't be accessible.

Usually a bad card in my experience - I'm too tight to buy decent cards, and quite a few have given me problems. Luckily they're quite cheap nowadays!!

You could try using a PC with card reader to format them first, and cleaning the contacts carefully.

Hope this helps.
