Installing memory
Follow these steps to install memory:
1 Turn off the computer, unplug the AC adapter (if connected) and remove
the battery pack. Then turn the computer over to access its base.
2 Remove the screws from the memory cover; then lift up and remove the
memory cover.
3 (a) Insert the memory module diagonally into the slot, then (b) gently press
it down until it clicks into place.
4 Replace the memory cover and secure it with the screw.
5 Reinstall the battery pack, and reconnect the AC adapter.
6 Turn on the computer.
The computer automatically detects and reconfigures the total memory size.

Want to know how to upgrade my lap top memory thank you

To upgrade you will need a SoDimm 2gb DDR II SDRAM, 667 MHz module, on the bottom of the notebook you will need to remove the panel usually secured by 4 screws to gain access to the memory slots, you probably have a 1 and 2 gb modules already so it'll mean removing the 1gb chip and discarding it as you only have 2 memory slots so you can fit the new 2gb module.

I would like to upgrade my aspire3610 by changing the memory to 2 gigs ,do I have to back up the existing memory and is difficult to do

This is a fairly straightforward procedure. There is no need to backup anything on your system, although it is good to always keep a backup. I do suggest you keep a backup, but I've upgraded many computers without having to. At least backup your most important documents onto a USB key or an external hard-drive.

Since you are upgrading your RAM and not your hard-drive, you're only upgrading the memory that is used while the computer is on.
