Hello,

If you unplug the machine and the water still comes in, you have a bad Water Inlet Valve. If when you turn the machine on at in overfills and you can stop the water by turning off the washer timer then you have one of a couple possible issues.

First, you pressure sensing tube could be clogged
Second, you just plain have a defective pressure sensing switch.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to comment back.

Thank you

Kenmore Washer only leaking from one area

Ive never worked on a Kenmore but it may just be the overflow outlet. All washing machines have an overflow which will dump water out from the top of the tub if it overfills but sometimes on high fill water level, clothes can splash around and cause a "wave" of water to splash out over the overflow outlet. Check to see if the leak only occurs when you have selected high level fill.

Washer is overflowing

The water input on washers is controlled by the timer which actuates the solenoid valves for both hot and cold water, telling them when to fill and when to close. I would run the machine thru a fill cycle with the washer back off, and with a voltmeter, observe if the voltage ever cuts off as the timer runs. I Another variable is the water level control. So also determine if that is working since if it failed to open the 'fill' circuit at the proper volume, you might have this overflow problem.

Cold Water Solenoid Problem

The fill switch has a diaphragm that could be damaged and not closing properly. I have personally experienced this problem before. The way water could be getting by the switch (even with no power applied) is simply water pressure in the lines. I don't understand why it would work during the spin and rinse cycles, however. If you say it's not a pressure switch problem (level sensor), then I would invest in a new fill valve. I hope this helps.
