Question about Kenmore Microwave Ovens

Overheating bottom Kenmore 66560652000

I have a Kenmore over the range (or Microhood, I guess) that was manufactured in June 2002 and purchased in November 2002 (model 66560652000). We are remodeling our kitchen and had to remove the microwave. It is sitting on a table and we have been using it. Today, I noticed when I went to use it that it was warm inside and the bottom was hot. I could leave my hand on it, but felt the heat radiate when I pulled it away. The rest of inside microwave was lukewarm, the outside was fine, except for the bottom, which I could feel was warm (I cannot lift the microwave to see how hot it was underneath). I unplugged it and it began cooling down within minutes. What is going on and is it worth repairing? This has been going on for at least a couple days as my mother informed me she noticed it was warm when she used it this weekend.Thank you!

Thank you. What you say makes a lot of sense. But would this heat build-up still be happening even if the microwave hadn't been used? When I noticed it being warm today, it had been almost 24 hours since it was last used. Thanks so much!

Hi,

I would suspect that when the microwave oven was on the table the vent or air openings were restricted by the table. Without free flowing air the control and other components could build up heat. It is doubtful that you built up enough heat to damage anything as this unit has more than one over temperature safety devices built into it.

That being said, the excess heat could weaken something internally especially on the control that would cause it to fail sooner than later in life.

My advice would be to leave it unplugged until it is mounted back on the wall per the instructions and use it then as normal. If it fails in the next year or so replace it at that time.

Yes, the control panel does have a transformer that is powered all the time. It does not normally get very hot since the air flows around it.

We just hooked up the hood fan and was wondering if it was normal that when you run the microwave the hood fan cuts in?

I do believe that is the normal way to get rid of the heat and any moisture while the micro is operating .

Code, F-9

This is not usually a consumer repairable fault - but you may be able to clear it simply by unplugging from the outlet for a minute or two and plugging it back in again. Try it out and if it works, you're all set - otherwise it might need to be seen by a pro.

Good luck!

Just need to re set the clock

Barbara, Google the model number with "manual" to locate (if you do not have it) the book.

Or, contact the customer service for this unit--I am sure with the recent time change they are getting a lot of calls.

How do you un-install a kenmore 665.61639100 microwave?

the link below will take you to the installation instructions if needed.
It is much easier for two people to remove the microhood. If attempting alone, please move the range out so you can get under the micro to support the weight. If the range stays in place, protect the top from damage.
1. make a landing site to the side to protect the floor when putting the micro down after removal.
2. Disconnect the power cord in the cabinet above.
3. loosen the two screws in the bottom front corners of the cabinet above. When removed the front of the micro will drop, be ready for the weight. Busy times, tools in hands microwave coming down in front.
4. tilt the front down. pull the cord out of the upper cabinet.
5. with micro still tilted down in front, lift the back of the unit upward to free it from the wall plate.
6. remove the fasteners in the wall plate and remove.
Congrats, begin celebration.

Microhood blowing house fuse

normally it should blow the units internal fuse first if its an internal issue, first check the line cord thoroughly for any bare wires at the case , then remove outer case asn see if cord is bare anywhere inside, then inspect unit fuse, take a multimeter and take a resistance check in an upper range og the meter of the disconnected h.v. diode, then disconnect h.v. capacitor(DISCHARGE) across terminals before touching and check this part, then lastly it could be the magnetron tube, or the hi voltage transformer, therse are VERY expensive items, you may vie to replace microwave then

Kenmore microhood

"Microhood" seems to be a slang term for the "microwave hood" (hood fan or exhaust fan) which is normally part of an over-the-range microwave oven or range. But these should be available separately, as I seem to recall. I would contact home centers such as Lowe's, Home Depot (if they still exist), etc., or a local appliance store.

Microhood turntable not working

You can find an exploded view of your microwave at http://www3.sears.com (yes, the 3 is there). Ref # 3009 on the drawing is the turntable motor. I would grab it by the shaft and gently try to turn it. If it's locked up or grinding, that's a sign it's bad. It runs $24.49 plus shipping: Part Description: Quantity: Part Number: Model Number: Price: TT MOTOR 6549W1S013D 721.64663300 $ 24.49 $ 24.49 Be sure to unplug the oven before you work on it. Hope this helps!
