Question about Maytag Dependable Clean Top Load Washer, MAV3955EWW
My wife tried to wash our king size comforter a few weeks ago and when it tried to start washing there was a high pitch noise like it was jammed. When I lifted the lid, there was a bit of a burning smell.
Since then, it still washes fine but when it hits the spin cycle, there is a knocking noise that gets louder as the cycle completes. It gets so loud by the end that it sounds like someone is hitting the side of the washer. I have tried lifting the lid when this is happening and it looks like the basket is off center.
Have we done major damage to the washer? I took the front cover off and didn't see anything at first glance. The three main springs were all in place.
Remove the agitator and inspect the main shaft on the gear box.and check the belt underneath.if the shaft is bend you will need a new gearbox. hope this helps.
