It will loosen as a normal bolt, left to loosen. but sometimes you will have to use a better force to break the tightness, such as a rubber mallet. Use something to lock the blade down from moving while taking the bolt off. Just don't lock it down against the mandrel or blade pulley.

You should be able to change the blades by loosening a bolt in the center of the blade on the underside of the deck.

Bolt broke off of adapter and blade. I replaced bolt and it broke again. So i replaced the bolt and adapter and now making a loud knocking sound this is on my cub cadet walk behind sc500z

Hi Diana:
I'd suggest that you pull the spark plug lead so it does not accidently start, and then try this.
Place the mower at a height where you can easily see under it. I use the tailgate of my pickup trucl.
If you put the handle inside the bed of the truck you can put a weight on the handle so the deck is tipped up. With the spark plug disconnected (or even removed) rotate the blade. Chances are that the knocking sound will be from the blade hitting the deck. It is possible that the bolts keep breaking because the blade is not seating properly.
I'm guessing that once you can see under the mower you will find the problem.

How to replace mower belt for ZTR cub cadet mower

Changing the Blade Drive Belts:
a.Set the parking brake. Remove ignition key and both spark plug caps.
b.Unscrew the wing nuts from the deck covers and remove both covers.
c.Using a 3/8" socket breaker bar or socket ratchet insert the drive end into the 3/8" square opening in the lower idler arm assembly and push the idler arm counterclockwise. While holding the idler arm back, loosen the blade drive belt from the pulley and slide the belt away from the pulley.
d.Remove tension of the PTO belt by moving the belt tensioning rod. Loosen the belt retaining bolt.
e.Pull the tensioner pulley away from the belt and remove the PTO belt then remove the blade drive belt.
f.Reverse the process to install the belt.

Have you tried running it with the blade back on? It may be ok as there is a braking system built into the pto clutch that makes the blades hard to turn by hand. Regards Phil

I have a cub cedet commercial tank 60 zero turn lawn mower, and i need to change lawn mower blades. Which way should i turn the nut to take the blades off.

As viewed from the bottom, if the blade turns clockwise, then the bolt should have a left-hand thread. A possible exception would be if the blade cannot slip relative to the shaft. This could be the case if the blade (not the washer) has a D shaped hole in it.
Good luck, Al K
