You don't say which camera model it is.
Probably an option to format it somewhere in the settings.
Switch it to the mode where you view/erase pictures and look for it there.
Sometimes you get option to erase1, erase all, format card.

Keeps saying card not initialized why ?

It just means that you need to format a new card in the camera before it will work properly. Go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions.

My camera is a 4.1 mega pixel...it was workin fine but now when i turn it on it says card not initialized

That means you need to format the card in the camera. Download any pics first because the card will be erased.

Fuji s602z CF II card not initializing

I've bought a SanDisk ExtremeIII 4GB CFI card. Ofcourse, at the beginig nothing worked. Camera format command worked neither (initializing problem,...). I then formated my card through a car reader on fat16 and now everything works. Just make this command: format <volume>: /FS:FAT. After checking and formathing the card, you will be asked to go on by 64K size of cluster. say Yes.

'Card not initialized'

I just bought a sweet FUJI FinePix S5700...
I could not for the life of me understand why I was getting this message, and I was getting very upset !!!
I have a brand new Sandisk 2GB card, and it was driving me CRAZY.
My solution turned out to be a very simple one.
When your computer sees your card and you need to format it, it will give you TWO options. Either format using "FAT32", or just "FAT".
The FAT32 option gave me no results.
I tried again using simply "FAT", and it works just fine!
GOOD LUCK!

Memory card for Olympus FE270

The larger the image, the more space it consumes, your new camera is producing files that are twice as large as the old one did. Buy a larger memory card, they are quite inexpensive these days.
