Question about D-Link DI-707P Router (DSDLDI707P)

1 Answer

I have a HP Deskjet 842C printer and an older gateway computer

I used to be able to print but now I cannot. I have the HP software, I just cannot get it to work. There is a square ended cable with fits to the computer and printer but when I connect the computer turns off. I have tried every service available and cannot get an answer. Why did it work for so long and then quit? Can you help me? Thanks, Cary Anne

Hello, It sounds like a driver problem. We can try this. Click start, right click my computer and left click manage. Next click device manager. This will list all the hardware and devices on the computer. The printer is listed under the ports(COM & LPT). Click the + in the box and the tree opens up and shows the printer. Right click on the printer and click update driver. Follow directions from install wizard. Reboot computer and see what happens. Let me know if Flames shoot out..LOL..Just kidding..Good Luck..!!

HP DESKJET D1360 HOW TO SET UP WIRELESSLY USING MAC

Are you trying to use MAC filtering. You would just need the MAC from the network setup screen and add it to your router/firewall.

If you are using a Mac (Apple) computer you would, providing you have a wireless adapter connected to Mac, just go into "System Preferences" and use the wizard under "Print & Scan". Make sure the networking on the printer is in on the same as your Mac.

This model printer does not have a network connection therefore to print via wireless from the laptop, the printer needs to be connected to a computer and setup as a shared printer. This computer must be connected to the wireless router with a LAN cable.

Welcome to FixYa.

You have to configure the Bluetooth settings of the printer first. I assume that you have the HP bluetooth dongle on your printer.

Configure Bluetooth settings
You will need a USB cable to configure the Bluetooth settings
  • Connect a USB cable from your computer to the rear USB port on the printer.
  • Open the printer Toolbox.
  • Click the Configure Bluetooth Settings tab.
  • Configure the settings you want, and then click Apply

    Keep me posted.

From your description, you appeared to have to have set up the printer correctly to print over your internet.
Can you see the remote computer from the main computer and the remote computer from the main computer?
Are both computers in the same workgroup or network name?

You may want to check your installation against my instruction on setting up a shared printer.
Please click on this link and follow my instruction on setting up a shared printer in a network :-

Wireless printing

Check the printer's manual if the software of this printer already supports winVista. If it is, you may connect the printer directly to the PC and check if you'll be able to print.

Hope this helps!

Printer won´t work

The printers listed in here are older models. If you have purchased a printer in the last 2 years, your printer most likely will work with a print server. If your printer is not mentioned in this FAQ, it may work. If you are using a multi-function printer, only the printing function will work through the print server. Several kinds of printers are not supported on a network. These include host-based (sometimes referred to as GDI printers), and PPA printers. There are also printers designed for home use that are not intended for support on a traditional network, but that may work in a Home PNA network. In addition, several HP Officejets are not designed for or supported on networks. Host-based (sometimes referred to as GDI printers). A printer that relies on the computer´s processor to rasterize the print job. Most host-based printers use the GDI interface built into Windows (hence the "GDI printer" term), so there is no need to convert the data to PostScript, PCL, or other printer language. Some HP Deskjet printers are PPA (Printing Performance Architecture) printers. With this new printing system, the printer handles only basic printer functions while the printer software on the computer handles the formatting. All formatting, such as color matching and correction, half-toning, edge enhancement, tone correction, and ink management, are handled by the software driver. Furthermore, some of the printers listed below may work on a network, but only when they are connected to the parallel port of a Windows computer that has the correct printer driver installed and printer sharing properly configured. Contact the support group for you specific printer for details. These printers have a low duty cycle and are not designed for high volume network printing. The models listed below are not designed or supported on networks.
