Gears are broken or off their track. If they are just off track, you may be able to open the camera and do it yourself. Do not do that if it's under warranty.
I suggest you send it to repair, as there are many small parts that can fall out and get lost when you open it up.

Lens wont go back in

The mechanical rectactors are probably worn out. Try turning it on and off again. If that doesn't work, try pushing gently the lens with your palm while shutting it off, maybe the rectractors need a bit of help or are just stuck and may fix themselves after you help them rectact the lens once.

Kodak Easy Share Z1275 stuck lens

**** a very common problem with most cameras. There hasn't been much of a solution for this problem except to try to wiggle the lens zoom while pushing and holding the power button.
Also make sure you have brand new batteries installed. Even the slightest dead battery will cause a problem.

Lens wouldn't open--now it wont shut

This seems to happen when something (water, sand, dust)
gets trapped in the lens mechanism.
Has the camera been somewhere filthy before?
The recommended methods include taping on the
bottom of the camera, rapping it on a table,
and pressing hard on the lens.
If the lens moves when you turn the camera on,
try keeping your hand on it so that i
t's forced back into the camera body.
A can of compressed air squirted around the
lens is also a possible fix...
but be super careful with that stuff,
a good hard blow of breath might be safer.

I'm not recommending that you do crazy stuff
to your camera, but if you're careful you may
be able to get it working again without having
to get it serviced.

Buzzing sound, wont come on!

Don't try and manually push in the lens at first...the buzzing is a warning letting you know that something is wrong with the camera. By accidently removing the batteries during shut down you interupted the shut down sequence. Try and turn on the camera and immediately press the play button on the back. This should reset the camera. If not and if you are under warranty it needs to be serviced. If you are not under warranty then you can try and push the lens down. Don't use a lot of force but try and gently do it.

Kodak dx6440 wont power up lens wont and retract

I have the same/similar problem. I could hear the camera attempting to retract the lens. Camera shut down after timeout.

Disassembled camera & found two teeth missing from plastic gear in gearbox attached to lens motor. Don't know yet if part(s) are available.

Camera had light use. Patheticly short life & that Kodak didn't use stronger nylon gears. Bought a barely use Kodak P880 recently, & the autofocus died shortly after. Web search showed others had same failure. I'll never buy another Kodak camera.

=[ wont work

If the lens does not extend then it is possible that it has become jammed. Somtimes this can cause the camera to sense an error and shut itself down immediately after powering on. There are other explanations for the behavior, but if the lens does not move this is the most likely cause. If the lens does extend but then the camera shuts right back off it is possible that an inner component such as the focusing element is not functioning properly. When a camera comes on and then turns right back off it is generally due to some failure in its self-check at power on. Most of these failures come from the lens due to the fact that it contains most of the moving parts. Check with your manufacturer for warranty support or recalls. Failing that you can find an online repair provider who can fix your camera. David Millier Advance Camera Repair

The lens doesnt close and when i turn the camera on it bips three times and the screan shuts off. the lens wont close.

The batteries need to be changed. The digital batteries sold at the stores die out too fast. I had this same problem. In result, I purchased rechargeable battieries.
