Question about Mitsubishi WD62627 62" HDTV

Re: Mitsubishi WD62627 projection TV issues

My Mitsubishi WD62627 HD rear projection TV will go all black and white after it's been on for a few hours. Turning the unit off for a few minutes and turning it back on will bring back a good color picture but it will eventually go all black and white again. Could this be something such as one or more defective surface mount capacitors? If so, which board(s) should be investigated or could it be the light engine?

I found the solution to my problem and it has worked on two different WD-62627's both with the same problem of the pictures going black and white after the sets had been on for about 20~30 minutes. I suspected that the color wheel might be the culprit. I removed the color wheels from both light engines and flushed out the back sides (where you can see the pulse coils in the back of the color wheel motors) liberally with Ronsonal lighter fluid, which is basically naptha. I used lighter fluid for years in camera repair to flush out micromotors that would slow down or bind over time. The Ronsonol evaporates quickly and does not leave a harmful residue, however, I blew each one out with compressed air to make sure there was no liquid left. I then cleaned the glass on the color wheels, installed them back into the light engines, and installed the light engines back into the TV's. Both have been working fine for several weeks now. I do not claim this technique as a panacea but it has worked for me.

    Here is the definition

you might want to take it to be repaired if you don't know what you are doing, and be careful because electronics can be dangerous if you choose to work on it yourself

This is unusual for this model, can you tell me what source you use for signal? Cable? Sat? Direct TV? Also how are you connected----via the coax fitting or the rear AV jacks.

Mitsubishi HD 50" rear projection tv is only showing picture in black and white. What is the problem?

Is sounds like to need to go to SETUP and set the unit to color. Also, weak signals will cause the unit to switch to B/W. Try using OTHER inputs (like DVD) to see if you still have no color. If no color, it could just be a SETUP problem...or..(ugh!) you have lost your color wheel or related circutry. (no easy fix)

I had this issue. If the tv is an HD, you will need to get new cables for HD. This solved my problem.
