Question about Whirlpool Duet 7.0 Cu. Ft. Super Capacity Plus Electric Dryer

1 Answer

No heat, just cool air no matter what the setting it is on.

Everything is working fine, just no heat. The dryer is only 1 1/2 yrs. old and gets little use. Do you think it is the heating element? I've unplugged it to reset the control panel, but nothing has worked.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Dryer is only 5 yrs old. Started to blow cool air. Not heating. Vent was blocked from outside. Cleared vent, flab is open, but dryer still not blowing hot air. Is there a reset on this machine? Why...

There is a device in the circuitry for the heating element which shuts off power to the heating element when the dryer gets above a certain temperature which is ealsily reached with a clooged vent hose. This device, a thermal limit switch or thermal fuse, cannot be reset, it has to be replaced.

If you want to do this yourself, let me know -- if not, you will need to arrange for someone to repair the dryer. The device costs about $20 -- a service tech will probably charge up to $150 for the repair.

I have a whirlpool dryer (wed5540sq) and will not heat. it is only about 2 yrs old. I have put a brand new plug on and it does nothing. if i put the old plug back on, it will turn but not heat

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

As everything in your dryer is working fine apart from it heating properly so the recommended repair will be thermal fuse/thermostat replacement. However, you can also test its continuity before replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

My LG Lan125HV works fine on air conditioning ( cool) but heat pump does not trigger when I move to heat or combined settings. Tried all temperature and fan settings, tried waiting to see if unit waiting...

I talked to LG customer support (800) 243-0000. The tech told me that this model had a problem with the indoor thermistor. It doesn't fail with an open-circuit condition, so you don't get an error code. The thermister just goes out of range and believes your indoor temp is much hotter than it is. That's why the heating never comes on. I'll bet that, even though it ran in COOLING mode, once your room reached setpoint, it just kept on cooling & cooling ... because the thermistor was still giving a false, high temp reading.

So, I bought a new thermistor, P/N 6323A20042A. My unit worked fine. Until the next week when I turned heating back on and now I have the same problem ... gives cooling but no heat. Something is failing the indoor thermistor OR the distributor sent me an old-style thermistor, I haven't gotten determination on that yet.

Regardless, call LG and see if they can't direct you to a distributor for an indoor sensor. LG's warranty coverage for parts is a royal pain, unless you can show a receipt by a certified installer, you're not going to have much luck getting payment for the part. However, the thermistor is only $10. Just hope you get one that doesn't fail on you!

Neptune glass front takes 4 hours to dry clothes.

make sure the vent system is clean. any restrictions can cause the safety switches to activate and turn off heaters. When it cools, the switch resets and starts heating. Unit will continue to cycle the heat off and on. Make sure all elements are working.
Start there.

Gas dryer heats up, then cools down for the rest of the cycle. The air is blowing but it is cool air.

You may have a safety thermostat causing it to trip out will defeat the signal for your heat setting. You have 2 thermostats 1 for safety 1 for operating. The operating thermostat is most likely not shutting off the burner when the temp is correct or it is working but not resetting its self. (I would recommend replacing both of these thermostats because you could have a like problem on the safety thermostat which would indicate a week setting and if it fails it could over heat all though they are made to fail open everything is man made in this appliance).

you can Check the thermostat(S) by placing a volt meter on the terminals with the dryer running. You should have no voltage across it until the flame goes out. If the flame does not come back on replace this thermostat.
