Question about Maytag Dryers

1 Answer

The dryer is making a rumbling sound when in use. It has some vibration but not like it is out of balance. When you open the door the drum stops immediately. Upon restart it makes a more mechanical sound and then starts rumbling again. Model is LDG6313 Series 05. Any suggestions?

Your dryers uses rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time. Idler pulley your dryer has a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it. Rear drum bearing assembly does not fail often in this type of dryer. There are videos of the testing and replacing of these parts at this will walk you thru the troubleshooting and replacement of these parts Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. This brings us to the last problem could be the blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time.To check this grab the wheel and see if theres any play . But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you need to replace it. If you need diagrams or illustrations of your specific model you can also enter your model # there. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available.

LG DLE3733 loud vibration from bottom

If that vibration is while running it may be from an imbalance of the clothes in the drum. Open the door, when the drum stops reorder the clothes around the drum and see if the rumbling stops.

Hey Ryan,,, did you just buy these for commercial use? Sounds like one of them missed the "balance drum" operation..or the "balancer guy" goofed the set-up..
Warranty should cover it!! .. Don't tell where you bought it its a commercial usage.

My dryer is making a very loud rumbling sound now when I turn it on. It's still working, but obviously needs some repair. I'd really appreciate your help! Thanks, Bridget

The drum on some dryers are driven by a rubber covered wheel beneath the rear of the drum. When the dryer is at rest, the drum sits still on that wheel. The longer the dryer sits still, the more the drum pushes down on that wheel and eventually causes a slight indentation in that wheel. When the dryer runs and then stops it sits at a different spot on the wheel. After a number of years of use, this wheel gets a number of these indentations and as the wheel ages the rubber loses its ability to return to its' original shape and causes a "bump" as the drum contacts these indentations. Enough of these "bumps" in a row sets up a vibration causing a rumbling sound that gets worse and worse. The vibration in my Whirlpool got bad enough to move the dryer around the floor.

There is a kit available to repair this problem for around $35 that consists mainly of a new wheel and belt and it is fairly simple to do.

Drum vibrates unit and makes a rumbling noise

sounds like the blower wheel is bad.the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into, when the wheel goes it makes a rumbling sound, also you could have worn glides that the drum rides on or a bad roller, you need to get in there and look but i'm sure it's worth repairing

Loud rumble sound, Vent hose vibration

That model of neptune dryer had a problem with the blower housings cracking. When the housing cracks, it binds forward into the blower wheel making a loud "rumble" noise and vibration. If you open the door and manually turn the drum and you hear a rubbing noise and feel alot of resistance, then you have a cracked blower housing and need to replace it. It is not an easy job to replace, so if your not familiar with dryers, you should have a technician replace it. Let me know if you have any further questions. shane

Loud rumbling noise with slight vibration

Normally the noise you hear is caused by the drum rollers having flat spots on them or needing lubricant.
If this is what is wrong It will make a kind of thumping noise.
When they need lubricant they will normally make a squealing noise also. You would lube the shaft and bearing area of the roller, using a good machine oil...something like "3 in One" oil.

Dryer makes rumbling sound when starting

If you remove the front cover and access the blower fan and see if it is still tight on the shaft. if it isn't it makes a rumble sound when started due to vibrating and after a while it makes more noise as it goes. Now I removed the fan and placed a shim in the flat area and matched the flat area of the shaft and replace it back on the shaft and it should solve it.
