Question about Digital Cameras

2 Answers

I was able to download pictures using a SHG 18 in 1 Reader/Writer. But then when I put the card Dx 1 Mb back in the camera and turned it on, I get the message "Card not initialized" but I can't format it in camera and I can't format it when I put it back in the reader. I'm a novice who was given this camera for Christmas. I could be doing something wrong that is simple to fix.

The message is trying to tell you that you need to format the card. The owners manual will have "how to format" information for your camera.

If you cannot format the card it could be the card or the camera. The only way to know for sure is to use another card.

Any card should be formatted in the camera before trying to use it for photos.
If the card comes already formatted, it should still be formatted in the camera before trying to use it for photos.

Wipe the contact area on the xD-Picture Card
with a soft dry cloth. It may be necessary to
format the xD-Picture Card. If the message still
    appears, replace the xD-Picture Card.

How to download pictures from my digital camera to my computer with Targus universal memory card reader/writer TGR-CRD25?

Connect the card reader to your computer. Take the memory card out of the camera and put it into the card reader. The card should now appear to your computer as another removable hard disk. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Nikkon coolpix L1 After downloading memory card .. then putting back into camera. Reading says "cannot read memory card." Checked card out at store verified that it is good. Why does it not work in my...

A couple things you might try.. remove the card carefully and check the position of the "lock" tab. Make sure it is fully in the unlocked position - not locked or a point between the two positions. Reinsert and try again.

It sounds lie you're using a card reader to download the pictures - try formatting the card while in the card reader via computer. The card should be completely empty when the format is complete. You can even try copying files to and from the card to make sure its ok and format again. When complete, try again in camera.

If the problem persists, check to make sure the card is on Nikon approved memory card list for use with the Coolpix L1 (provided below):

The following is a list of approved memory cards for the Coolpix L1 digital still camera. These cards have been tested and approved for use with the Coolpix L1.
The L1 uses SD (Secure Digital) memory. Sandisk:
  • 64MB, 128 MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
Toshiba:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 128 MB*, 256MB*, 512MB
Panasonic:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
* - Cards rated for 10MB/s (high speed) Other cards have not been tested. For more details on the memory cards listed above, please contact the manufacturer.

The list came direct from Nikon Support. Other cards may work, but only those on the list are approved. Successful use of other cards can not be guaranteed.

I hope this helps!

Not all pictures are downloading when transfering to my computer file

Are you using a connecting cord to the computer or using a card reader/writer?
If it is the camera connected to the computer, then make sure the battery in the camera is fully charged or fresh.

I want o put pictures back on my camea that are saved to my computer

You will need a card reader/writer, which are usually very inexpensive and found in any camera shop. You just have to place your SD or CF card in the reader and copy your files to it as if it was a USB key. Make sure it is a reader/writer device, because there are some that only read the cards, but won't write back.

Nikon Coolpix 4600 lens extended and won't turn on

Go to store and purchase a memor card reader/writer. It will allow you to put your memory card in it and download the pictures to the computer via the usb port. Make sure the reader/writer is made to accept your type of memory card.

What did I pay $13.99 for? I thought I was getting some expert help

Hi webgirl,

Your title/concern "What did I pay $13.99 ...", are you referring to availing of Premium Solution or a Live Session? For inquiries of this nature, pls send an email to General Support support@fixya.com.

As for your concern on a DX 1 Mb card not initialized and/or can't format, it could be that the memory card has been corrupted. Since neither the camera nor Windows can format, perhaps you can try and use HP Drive Key Boot Utility available here. Of course formatting would erase all and everything inside the memory card.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Why not use a separate memory card reader/writer instead, it's pretty affordable nowadays and you can drag and drop image files on the fly...

Sometimes the digital camera mass storage driver hangs while in usb access which stops multiple file transfers. You can try and reinstall it if you don't want to use an external memory card reader/writer...

Usb reader/ writer

Start "Disk Utility" and "repair disk permissions on all disks.  Restart the Mac and it should fix.   I don't believe one ever needs to load a driver on a Mac for any card reader.   It should work as plug and play.
Good luck.

Downloading pictures from memory card

Not sure if this will help, but after I used a reader/writer, I could no longer see the pics that were on my memory card unless I had it in the camera. A reader/writer reformats, so you will need to reformat the memory card to upload to your pc.
