That probably means that the connector on the phone is faulty.
If the phone does not start at all, then before going for the connector the phone must be tested using a battery charged on a different phone, to ensure that the problem is not a faulty battery or a dead phone.
The connector usually fails because of oxidized contacts on phone connector.
You can try sprying circuit cleaner solution on the contacts. Remove the battery before applying the solution and follow carefully the instructions.

If that does not work, then the connector is broken. In this case the phone needs repair.
