I am looking at purchasing a PSP 3000 that has the following problem. "The problem with this is it does not power on. When plugged into charger the red light is on but does not power on." That is the only information that I have.

Try keeping your psp battery in a dry place for a day,then try charging.If this doesn't work..
Try the following:
a) Try charging using a usb cable...
c)Also try cleaning the usb port and power port or the place were u connect the charger to psp...
b) Remove ur psp battery and plug in the charger and turn on the psp... When it turns on put the battery back in (do not turn off the switch or psp when u put the battery back in)...

More than likely your charger is broken. If the charger has any lights on it, see if they turn on when the charger is plugged into an outlet. If the lights don't turn on, try another outlet. If the lights still won't come on, you need a new charger.

If the lights work, or your charger doesn't have any try using a different charger and see if the PSP will charge. If not, then the actual connection within your PSP is shot, or there was a short in your system.

Have you tried using another charger? use another battery? if this does not fix the problem please find a local electronic repair shop or service center near you and let them take a look to determine what is the actual problem..

First check to make sure the battery and power cord are fully functional. I would test your charger with another PSP. If you know for certain that your power cord works, then then you have an issue with the PSP, not the power cord. Then see if the warranty is still good. Sony has a 1-year warranty on all of their products. If you didn't purchase the system brand new and got a used one instead, the warranty may very well be over. If the warranty isn't any good, I'd take it to a professional. Fixing the product itself can be very tricky, and probably isn't worth it.

you've run out of battery, either purchase another charger, try and fix you charger or get another battery.

When you connect the PSP via the USB, does the orange light power on? If you are using the standard USB cable and attached to the top of the PSP, from experience, it needs at least to have a little amount of battery power. If not, it will not totally power on or charge. You need the A/C adapter to charge the battery pack.

Had service personnel check and it was determined that the battery and charger was good; therefore focus shifted to the motherboard. Due to the cost of the new PSP 3000 being $169.00 and possible charges to repair the PSP 1000, I determine that it would be more economical to buy a new system.
