Lamp goes off and on.

While watching a movie the lamp shuts off and then after a few moments it warms up and comes on again. We have had the projector for a number of years so I thought the lamp needed replacement. I did replace it with a brand new one but the on/offf problem persists.

This sounds more like a heat thing to me rather than a lamp problem. Is there any indication (blinking light?) when the unit shuts down? I would expect to see a temp light blinking or on.

Try cleaning the fan area and verify that the air filter is clean as well.

Update this with what you find.

Thanks,
Dan

Hey i was watching a movie when i believe the projector overheated.. i opened it and know it has all the lights on but wont work?

Possible that the lamp /lamp holder has burned. if the lamp is not lit then it is possible that the power supply has tripped due to a thermal shut down. Allow the unit to cool down , remove the power and then try again.
if there is no sucess then it is possible that the lamp/power to the lamp is faulty.

Hi,
Time to replace Lamp in TV.
Existing lamp getting weak and causing that problem, replace lamp and TV will be fixed.
Buy Sony original lamp for TV safety and lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual.
Thanks.

Keeps cutting off while watching tv

If the set shuts off then tries to turn itself back on then I suspect the lamp. The lamp part number is BP96-01472A. If it just shuts down and then you are able to turn it back on, then in most cases you have a bad digital board. The part number for the main/digital board is BP94-02262D...Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks...

Picture goes out

Has the lamp ever been replaced on this TV? If not it would be the first suspect. The next time the picture goes out look for light coming from the back of the TV where the lamp is. If you see no light then replace the lamp. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thank you...

TV turns off after a few moments but come back on again after a few seconds

Remove the lamp and check to see if the connections of the lamp and the lamp driver(ballast) are ok or they look bit burned. Also the lamp should always be replaced first especially if is two years old or more.
Check to see how many times the error indicator flashes. If it flashes 5 times then the lamp driver is probably defective.
common problems are lamp and lamp driver(ballast).
let me know if you need more help.
Good luck.
