Question about Carrier 38CKC024 Air Conditioner
Hi, this is a 2 ton split system by the numbers. If the condenser fan motor sounds tired, not knowing the age and if it has been serviced, you may be loosing the bearings. If the motor is not a sealed unit, you can see the oiler's on it and add a couple drops of 20weight oil. You can pick up this oiler at a hardware store with a teloscopic end to reach them. Also, pull the power plug at the outdoor unit and give it a good hose down on the coil. This will cause the head pressure to be high and all will labour. On the data plate you will see what the amps this motor draws, about 1.5 R.L.A. or so and maybe a 1/4 h.p. If you have excess to an amprobe you could check it this way, but most folks haven't. Clean the coil and careful not to bend the fins with to much pressure. This is a good place to start and get back to me. If the motor does not fail, you may be low on freon to. Keep me posted.
