Question about HP Computers & Internet

1 Answer

While using a WLAN in my home my HP notebook will randomly disable WLAN. I have updated drivers, changed power settings, and uninstalled and reinstalled WLAN card. The only solution HP support has offered that has helped is to reset BIOS to default settings. This will allow me to enable WLAN from the Wireless Assistant, however it continues to disable and the default setting reset is the only way to resolve the problem.

It does sound very much like a bios problem. I would however recommend just buying a new wireless card and this will also fix your problem

Have you disabled it by mistake, usually a button on top row of key board, if not that, might need to check its drivers for updates. In control panel, look for driver updates via search. Follow instructions. Red.

Wlan is disabled

Disconnect battery as well as the adapter. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Then turn on your laptop, see if the wireless light turns on.
If not, go to the Device Manager then reinstall the wireless drivers from Network Adapter. Restart your laptop and check if the light turns on.

Else, try to update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website.

WLAN In windows 7

This icon means that windows has found some sort of error with the device. Try disabling and re-enabling the device on the right click menu. Once re-enabled right click and go to drivers tab. Click update driver and search automatically for updated software. You could also try uninstalling the driver and downloading and installing a new version from the manufacturers website.

Hello

Disable firewall settings to check if it doesn't block connection.

1) Update the WLan driver. In most cases this solves connections issues.
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/

2) Go to device manger -> WLan card -> Properties -> Advanced tab and check if the WLan modus 802.11 B/G or N has been set to the same Wlan modules supported by router!

3) Disable the WLan encryption and password on the router and check if you could connect to the router without any security settings. Do this only for testing purposes. If it connects properly, enable the encryption password and try again.

4) Disable WLan power saving! This can be done in Win Power Management. If that doesn't work, perform a system restore, set your computer to how it was the last time you were on the internet.

Wireless button, won't come on. Stays the orange color.

This could be caused by one of the following issues:

WLAN is disabled in the BIOS. Check BIOS that WLAN is enabled. Update to the latest BIOS if not already:

Update Wireless drivers to the latest.

Update HP Wireless Assistant, try turning it on/off via Wireless Assistant

If all these do not work, contact HP to replace switch cover which controls the wireless button, power button, mute, volume. Does the mute and volume buttons work?

If you have vista click the start button and in the start search type "hp wireless assistant". It should show up in your list while you type it. Click on it. Once the assistant box shows up, click on "properties". A "settings" box should show up. The main one you need here is "independant controls for installed wireless device". Check that box. The other ones are icons and indicators that you can check at your discretion. If in doubt, check them all. Hit the "apply" button. Then in the upper right hand side of the box hit the button that says "turn on". This should activate the device and if you have a light up indicator on your computer, it should change color or light up. That should do it. Kind of weird how it gets to that point.
