Question about GE Profile Stainless Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator with Internal Dispenser 22.2 Cu. Ft. - PFS22SIS

Change left side opening fridge door to right side opening

On GE Profile refrigerator, I need to change the door from left side opening to right side opening. I know how to move the top and bottom hinges from right side to left, but can't see how the move the handle from one side to the other (unless you just turn the door upside down and change shelves).

It does not look like the will install if the door is inverted, but maybe I'm missing something. There's also the case of the GE Profile emblem which would be upside down if I just inverted the door. Don't want to pry it off if it will damage the door.

  • jcooke927 May 03, 2010

The ones I had switched before had the top handle connection on the top of the door also. This one looks like the handle will work from either side, but there's the question of the shelves and that GE profile emblem.

  • jcooke927 May 03, 2010

The model number is PDS22SFSBRSS and unfortunately in the owner's manual it says "handles may not be moved on some stainless steel models". I'll go back and look one more time but I may be out of luck. Thanks anyway.

Will the shelves still work with the door upside down? Also what is the model of your refrigerator so I can get a picture.

I can't get a picture but on the refrigerators that I have switched the door from left to right opening the handles screwed in on the top of the door. If you have your model # that would be great.

  • Brian Niten May 03, 2010

On the picture that comes up when I use the model # that's showing on the fixya email it is a double door refrigerator.

  • Brian Niten May 03, 2010

I was able to get a manual online with the serial #. Unless yours has some plugs in the door you can remove to expose screw holes for the handle on the opposite side then you can't reverse it.

I just got a used GE Profile Refridge and would like to change the door from left opening to right side opening. How would I do that?

Hi. Look carefully at the door and check to see that there are buttons on the side of the door opposite of the hinge. Those buttons conceal the alternate set of screw holes for the hinges. If there are no predrilled holes on the other side of the door then it is not reversible.

That said, If you do locate those buttons, unscrew the hinges from the door, have a helper there as the door will be heavy. Once the door is off, remove the hinges, then move them to the opposite side and reattach the door to the fridge. Put those buttons in the new open holes. J.

GE Profile leaking onto floor

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section behind the cover underneath the evaporator coil. (hint: use turkey baster with hot water) Make sure water drains when you pour it in. If it doesn't - also clean drain tube on the back of the unit behind the cover. When done - put the tube exactly where it was.
Good luck! :)

humid air in the house. any time you open the fridge, house air is sucked in. when you close it, the fridge cools the air and moisture from the warm air condenses on any cold surface. also check to see if there is a gap in the seal.
