Question about HP Color Inkjet cp1160 Printer

1 Answer

How do I reset a hp cp 1160

Thepaper jammed in the printer and someone tried to pull the paper out of the printer rather than take the duplexer off the back and remove the paper. Paper will feed through the machine, so I don't believe we have a problem with the rollers or paper feed, but I can't get it to eliminate what is in it's memory. I have removed the power from the machine over a weekends time, but was hoping there was a button combination that I could push to set it back as it was.

The HP1160-C has no static onboard memory, so I believe that the document is actually in the computer's memory. Depending on your OS, it should be possible to unqueue a document from the spooler.
Here, for example, the instructions for Windows XP (Vista/Seven should be very similar if not identical):

How do I get jammed paper out of the back of it?

This is from the user guide available on the HP.com website:
This section contains the following topics:
• Clear paper jams
• Avoid paper jams
Clear paper jams
Paper jams can occur either inside the printer or in the automatic document feeder.
CAUTION: To prevent possible damage to the printhead, clear paper jams as
soon as possible.
TIP: If you notice poor print quality, clean the printhead. For more information, see
Clean the printhead.
Use these steps to clear a paper jam.
To clear a jam inside the printer
1. Remove all media from the output tray.
CAUTION: Trying to clear a paper jam from the front of the printer can
damage the print mechanism. Always access and clear paper jams through
the automatic two-sided printing accessory (duplexer).
2. Check the duplexer.
a. Push the button on either side of the duplexer, and then remove the unit.
b. Locate any jammed media inside the printer, grasp it with both hands and
then pull it towards you.
c. If the jam is not there, push the latch on top of the duplexer and lower the
cover. If media is jammed inside, carefully remove it. Close the cover.
d. Reinsert the duplexer into the printer.
3. Open the top cover and remove any debris.
4. If you have not found the jam and have Tray 2 installed, pull out the tray and
remove the jammed media, if possible. If not, do the following:
a. Ensure the printer is turned off and disconnect the power cord.
b. Lift the printer off Tray 2.
c. Remove the jammed media from the bottom of the printer or from Tray 2.
d. Reposition the printer on top of Tray 2.
5. Open the ink cartridge access door. If there is paper remaining inside the printer,
ensure the carriage has moved to the right of the printer, free any paper scraps or
wrinkled media, and pull the media towards you through the top of the printer.
WARNING! Do not reach into the printer when it is on and the carriage is
stuck. When you open the ink cartridge access door, the carriage should
return to its position on the right side of the printer. If it does not move to the
right, turn off the printer before you remove any jam.
6. After clearing the jam, close all covers, turn on the printer (if you turned it off) and
resend the print job.

That's about as much as I can find for you. If you look in you user guide which is on a CD that came with the unit, you can go to page 152 through 154 to see diagrams that go with these instructions. Good luck!

Printing tips for paper jam

<b>ThePaper Jam</b> Wehave all had this one happen. You are printing merrilyaway when all of a suddenyou hear that distinctive crunch of paper gettingeaten by your printer. Youimmediately cancel the print job, leap from yourdesk and flip open the printer."Ugh," you say as you notice the crinkled edgesof paper wrapped around godknows what. Okay, so you have found the problem, but what do you do? Thebest way to remove a paper jam is to gently pull thepaper in the direction ofthe paper path-with power off, of course. Whateveryou do, don not pull thepaper backwards. You could damage your printer foreverby doing so!

M475dn paper torn in duplex, how can you get it out

First you want to make sure that you remove the paper in the normal direction of travel to avoid damaging sensors. Try to find either a thin stiff piece of cardboard or plastic, like a store loyalty card and push that through in the direction of travel to push the paper out. Be very cautious about using any type of knife or metal object because if you break any plastic guides or scratch the plastic inside the ADF it might lead to future jams. I typically recommend that customers scan perforated items off the glass not through the ADF.

Blinking green light

Here is the diag lights information from the HP 1160 service manual. It really sounds like you have worn pickup rollers in your printer. When these rollers get worn out the printer can not pickup the paper to feed it into the unit so it thinks that this is a paper jam but in fact no paper even moved. Pull the paper tray out and inspect the pickup roller. The surface should be like a fingerprint, not smooth, but with a rough texture. If it does appear smooth then they will need to be replaced. They roller can be purchased from Amazon and is end user installable. You can get one here:http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000MYV6E8/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

I hope this helps you get the printer going again.

The duplexer in our HP printer appears to be jammed. where is it located?

As you face the printer, walk around to the left side. You will see the power switch. Above the power switch is the duplexer. It pulls out.
You said the duplexer is jammed, so you might not be able to pull it out.

Is the duplexer jammed or is there paper jammed in the duplexer?

The paper feed on my hp c6180 all in one photo smart printer does not operate. Top or bottom feeds. I have already checked for paper jams.

This is sort of scenario is usually causedby dust inside the printer. Dust has a way of preventing the sensors fromdetecting paper. Also it prevents the rollers from having a firm grip on thepaper while picking paper. Sometime one side grips well and tries to pick thepaper while the other doesn't resulting in a jammed. I will suggest you get along handle brush and try to reach as far inside the printer as possible andbrush (from the back and front). If you have a blower you may also use it toblow well into the interior of the printer (Ifyou do not have a blower the brushing will still do if you do it well.) This,if properly done should do it. Brush especially the rollers etc. Good luck & God bless!
