Question about Samsung LN-T4065F Television

2 Answers

Having a problem with my 2 yr old Samsung LCD TV [LNT4065F], which I understand from several unfortunate owners, is quite common. When trying to power up, the TV will not turn on, just keeps clicking and clicking. At first, the screen started to have colored dots, and we had to power off/on several times to get a good picture. Then the screen went to all color bars, and took several minutes to come on. Now nothing but repetitive clicking and a black screen. A Samsung service rep said it sounds like a "capacitor". The TV is out of warranty. The estimate for repair from the only authorized Samsung vendor in my area is $250-$300. My question is, can you give me directions to replace the part that may be the problem? I'd like to try that before spending hundreds of dollars. Thanks, Nancy

Thanks for mentioning this, Travis! You're absolutely right -- my TV qualifies for repair! This is sooooo much better than trying to work up the nerve to learn how to solder a layered circuit board.

My Samsung tv has sound but no picture. it is 2 yrs old. any ideas ? thx.

Hi Brenda,
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

Hi liam, this is a common problem and quite easy to fix.
Unfortunately Samsung decided to use inferior generic power boards with their sets. They pretty much use the same power supply for the 32, 37 and 40 inch TV's. This is a great idea for production, unfortunately the power supply fails on the 40 and 42 inch models because of load. I find these power boards pretty cheap on Ebay and replacing them is a breeze. Just keep an eye out for the refurbished boards, since these have been beefed up a bit to compensate for the extra power drain.

Locking Controls of Insignia 40'' LCD TV

Alas, I have been through this with my children and unfortunately outside of a Parental Channel lock, I have not heard of a vendor who has created the capability of locking the set controls. It's just the unfortunate case that the controls are accessible to the child (I have another TV where they are on top and even my 9 yr old can't reach them - ha ha).Sorry my friend.

Two (2) minute start up Samsung LNT4065F

I found information on the earthinfo website that seems to pretty well describe, what I think to be the problem. I believe this to be a capasitor problem on the pwer supply. I'm going to try and replace these as time permits. It Seems MANY have had this problem and I'm convinced this is the resolve I'm going to persue. Very helpfull website, step by step instructions and pictures. I do not, at this time, believe this to be any software issue.

My samsung lnt4065f quit working we took back off and found two capacitors are swelled, is this easy to fix it myself?

Yes it is easy to fix...the capacitors can be found at your local radio shack. Remember when replacing electrolytic capacitors, if you cannot find the exact uf and v specs, you can go higher in both uf and v specs, never go lower as you might blow the caps again. I have done several samsung lcd monitors and i replace all the electrolytic caps on the power supply board, exception being the 1 or 2 high voltage caps (200v or 400v). Make sure you keep notes as you remove the board, so that you can put it back together correctly. In my experience, it's only the caps needs replacement! Good Luck!

change out the LVDS cable (the cable that go from the control board to the main board) and it should resolve your problem. If your TV is still in warranty, call 1-877-MY-VIZIO and they will set up an in home repair for free.

LCD TV takes a long time to turn on

Its a common problem with many Samsung LCD TVs. We had the same problem on our Samsung TV. Based on some info on the net we called Samsung Support department ( 1-800-SAMSUNG). After describing the problem and mentioning that I have read on the net that its a common problem, representative asked for the model number and serial number of the TV ( I read them to her from a sticker on the side of TV). The Samsung Rep acknowledged that it was a common problem for my model and few other LCD models and they were fixing the problem without any charge to customer eve though TVwas out of warranty. She took the required info and gave me the ticket/transaction number and forwarded it to a local technician. Technician called next day and setup the appointment with us. Technician came within the 4 hr window that he had promised and changed the faulty capacitor on the power board and was done within 10 mins. Samsung rep had indicated that the technician will determine if the issue was with capacitor or not. If the issue was something else then tecnician will charge the regular service charge to fix the issue.
