For anyone with a Big Disk drive that doesn't get recognised by Windows and gets a TUSB 6250 message in Device Manager, the cause is very likely to be the power supply. Although the drive will be powered up, it is not spinning at the correct speed. I tried all of LaCie's technical support suggestions, some of which are outlined above and none worked. They finally suggested getting a new power supply. This solved the problem (Wattac, £22). This problem has affected a lot of LaCie Big Disk owners...

Thanks this helped m2

Please try the following:

# Disconnect all cables connected to the drive.
# Connect the power cable to the drive.
# Connect the USB-cable. First to the drive. Then to the computer.

If the drive is detected correctly the problem was probably caused by improper shutdown or un-mount (unplugging the cable without dismounting first, etc.). When this has happened, the USB-interface needs to reset itself properly. After this, reconnection should be no problem.

you should try to reformat it and see if it resets. On windows go to start, computer, format, and set it to default formatting.

Lacie 16gb whizkey unable to format in mac

If you have a windows computer, attempt to format it in the drive options (Control panel > System And Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management, then right-click the drive, format into FAT 32) Otherwise, use disk utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities) to format it on mac (I don't have a mac right in front of me, but from what I'm reading, it seems to be a straightforward process)

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this helps

Usb boot disk

Plug thumb drive into a working unit. Go to COMPUTER and find the device. Right click on the drive and choose FORMAT.. when you see the FORMAT choice you will see the option to make MS DOS disk. This is a bootable disk option. Make sure both are checked and choose format. When you want to boot from the USB you will need to (dependent on model of computer) need to press F2 to get to bios and go to boot options.. you will need to find boot order and choose USB drive as first choice or else it will continue to try hard drive, cd, etc.

Sabrent 5in1 USB-DSC5 USB2.0 to SATA & IDE cables HDD not in Windows Explorer

There shouldn't be any problem accessing FAT32 drives of that size.

Check your disk management (right-click "my computer", hit "manage" and then click on the "disk management")

It should tell you what kind of formatting the disk is, and what the drive-letter is.

If it shows as being FAT32, then you're fine. If it doesn't, the FAT has been corrupted and may require a disk rescue or some kind of disk fixing utility.

Assuming it shows the partition as healthy and FAT32, but it doesn't have a drive-letter, right-click on it and "change driveletter". Pick a letter and hit OK. It should now show up!
