Have several classroom sets of TI 82 graphing calculators. They are not working even if I change the AAA batteries. I have tried to change the coin battery but nothing is working. How do I get the calculators working?
I know how to lighten or dim the screen. That is not the problem. I use alkaline batteries and that does not help the problem. I have also changed the coin type battery and that also has not helped. The screen on some turn on but I get no curser nor anything to display. I have also cannot even get the screen to turn on.I know how to lighten or dim the screen. That is not the problem. Okay, try a hard reset on one and see what happens.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does that do anything?

1. Try a new set of AAA batteries. 2. Adjust the contrast by pressing and releasing the 2nd key followed by pressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as necessary. To adjust or lighten the display, use the down arrow. 3. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the CLEAR key. While holding CLEAR, reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display the message "RAM Cleared". Release the CLEAR key and then press it one more time to remove the message. 4. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the DEL key. While holding DEL reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now". Follow the instructions for the TI-83 family or TI-84 Plus family to reinstall the calculator operating system. 5. Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.
If the TI-84 does not function even though you are sure that the batteries are fresh, you can try manually resetting it by following steps:
1. Remove all of the AAA batteries from the graphing handheld
2. Press and hold the ON key for ten seconds
3. Replace the batteries
4. Turn on the unit
When you reset your graphing handheld, the contrast sometimes changes. If the screen is faded or blank, adjust the contrast by pressing 2nd and releasing up-arrow or down-arrow keys.
No. The calculator runs on the four AAA batteries. The lithium battery is solely to retain the contents of the memory while you change the AAA batteries. If you don't care about retaining the memory, you don't need the lithium battery. You do, however, need the AAA batteries to use the calculator.
The following are 4 different things you can try that is on the Texas Instruments Website: " 1. Try a new set of AAA batteries.
2. Adjust the contrast by pressing and releasing the [2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as necessary. To adjust or lighten the display, use the down arrow.
3. Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [ON] key for 20 seconds. Reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on.
4. Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5 minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.

calculator and reinstall it while the transfer is taking place.
You have several ways to connect the calculator

Plus. It connects to a serial port on a computer and to the I/O port on
the calculator. It requires the Graph Link software available on the TI
web site (Downloads, Software and Apps, Connectivity)
USB Silver Link cable. It connects a USB port on the
computer to the the I/O port on the calculator. It requires the TI
connectivity software, also available on the TI Web site.

To reset the calculator: 1) Remove all AAA batteries 2) Hold down the On button for 10 seconds 3) Reinsert AAA batteries 4) Turn the calculator back on.
Note: When you reset your graphing calculator, the contrast sometimes changes.
This is kinda a weird situation. Because it's usually the other way around. Your ram will clear if your calculator is frozen. So take out all 5 batteries from the back. Even the back up battery. Then reset it again. 2nd then + then 7 then 1 Then 2. Good luck.
My best advice is to go to Window then Format menu and make sure your axes are on. Or press 2nd then up arrow and hold it untill it is visible (if you go too dark do the same thing just with the down arrow.
