Try the garmin webupdater on their site to see if it is up to date firmware wise.

1/2 to 1 hour b-4 getting satelite

It sounds like it needs to be forced to download and use a new data set. In the data are the times etc when it should be able to see a satellite. When this gets out of date it still find satellites but more by accident.

First way to try is to use the web updater and use that to try and update the needed files. This can fix it if not then you need to do do a master reset.

Charge the unit up. The reset should take less than 5 minutes but can take up to an hour depending on location etc. This is going to erase any user data such as waypoints routes etc so save those off first if you want them.
  1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
  2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
  4. Release the power button when the device powers ON
    • You will see a new message: "Do you really want to erase all user data?"
  5. Remove your finger from the touch screen when this message displays
  6. Touch Yes
    • If text language is not in English, this is the button on the right
The device will now reset. Follow the on-screen prompts and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

The GPS appears to be stuck on & this drains the battery in about an hour when it is searching for satellites

Sounds like the spaghetti cable for the antenna is broken or has become unsoldered.... but to confirm...
Remove the reset probe from the top of the "pen" and insert it in the Reset hole in the back of the unit....

After the unit comes up, simply page over to the "obtaining satellites" page and see if you are getting signals. Of course you MUST be outside and you must NOT be under trees.

If no satellite data is received within 1 minute, your antenna (or its interfacing circuit) is not functioning.
At that point, repair is almost not worth it. You can get a new GPS for well under 100 bucks.... and Garmin will not even Look at your unit for that sum of money.

My gramin gps is not getting satellite often. and it is

Hello, Where are you when you are trying to get satellite connection, try somewhere open, no where near heavy power lines. If your inside a house, go outside, where there is no trees covering you.

TomTom slow and sometimes won't configure to satellite

All gps units do not do well trying to find a satellite on the move. You should let your unit locate satellites before you start moving.

Garmin 755T Issue - Firmware Update and acquiring satellite

Hi Bob,
You need to do a complete reset by turning it on and at the same time press the bottom right hand corner of the screen this will reset it to factory condition. having done that when you switch it on again leave some where where it has a clear view of the sky and leave it for about 1/2 an hour. This should sort it out for you. Best of luck.

My Tom Tom 530 switches on ok but screen shows no signal, when outside. I have pressed the reset button problem still persists. Can you help! Thanks.

Tap the map screen in the lower right hand side where the bars are then tap the screen on the upper right hand side where the battery is. This will bring you to the satellite screen. Leave it alone for about a minute if you don't see any grey bars showing on the bottom of the screen your unit has a problem. If you do see grey bars at the bottom leave it alone and let it do it's thing. Sometimes for the first time after not using it for awhile it may take up to a 1/2 hour for it to locate the satellite's

GARMIN ZUMO 550

Have you checked the firmware updates through webupdater (on the garmin site)
Have you ever erased all user settings? To do this press and hold the right bottom of the touch screen while the zumo is powwered of, then press power on until the screen pops up, select yes to erase all user settings, it will now startup clean and request you to set the GPS up. Press and hold the clock will pop up the system menu. Any SD cards installed should be removed, just to make sure that's not the case. To see if your antenna is bust, connect an external antenna. I still have my streetpilot 3, rugged as hell, just a bit crappy memory wise, but back in those days it was THE SOLUTION!

My Garmin has stopped finding destinations - just says "Searching for Satellite)+

I had the same problem with my Nuvi 310. Found a solution in here that works. Here's a copy of the advice.....note you will need to get in the car and set it for a destination and go. 5-10 mins later the Garmin Nuvi will lose the satellites, but don't adjust it it, leave it on and keep going. Eventually after about an hour it will right itself, pick up the satellites and evrything will be back to normal.

Here's the advice:

I experienced the same problem about acquiring satellite signal even when it's a clear sunny day. After 30 mintues, it was still searching!
The unit appeared to have "stuck" in this acquiring mode. The following worked for me:
1) open the GPS antenna
2) press the bottom left screen while holding the power button to turn the unit on
3) enter maintenace mode
4) select diagnostics
5) clear error report, do NOT clear any user data
6) restart unit the usual way

My GPS 350 was able to acquire satellite signal in less than 1 minute after the above steps were taken.

Garmin c330 freezing

I am happy to say my problem seems to have been solved. I found 3 possible solutions during my search - may need to try all of them to see if it works. 1) Reset by pressing the button under the faceplate. (Did not work for me). 2) Master reset - switch off the unit and press on the right bottom corner of the LCD and switch it on. Release the power button when it powers on, while pressing on the R lower corner. This is supposed to erase all prior data. I could not master reset my unit, for whatever reason. 3) Software update: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collectio... If you are a windows user you will want software version 2.4.1 as of April 3 2007. This worked for me. Thanks.
