Printer is printing but when the paper is coming out it is crinkling the left side. I found a peice of thin plastic in the rear door. Could this be the problem and how can I fix it?

I do not have the printer manual. Do you know where I can get one?

  • marilyncduma May 03, 2010

I checked both rollers and they look OK. I did find another piece of the plastic. It is black on one side and brwon on the other.

  • marilyncduma May 03, 2010

I have found 5 pieces that are 1/2 by 2 inches when put together. I have no idea whether they are part of the printer or not.

  • marilyncduma May 03, 2010

I found where the plastic is coming from. There is a red roller in the back. Above it there is a roller that is covered with the thin plastic. The pieces of plastic are coming off that roller.

Hi. Please check the paper feed alignment roller and pick roller for any damage or obstruction.

Here is a link for the printer's manual.
1.) for paper feed alignment roller, please refer to page 4 - number 12
2.) for pick roller, please refer to pages 5 and 6.

Click here for IBM 1422 Service Manual.

In case the link is not working, just copy and paste this in your browser:
    ftp://ftp.lexmark.com/depot/IBM/Info_1422_Depot_Repair_rev053106.pdf

You need a PDF reader to view the manual.

    Good luck.

How big is the plastic? Does it looks like it belong to the printer?

Check the paper path for any tiny object that's causing the crinkle. When that happens to my printer, I found out that a small lever use to eject the paper was stuck and was causing the crinkle on the page.

I can't think of any parts right now with that size. But I am pretty sure that something is stuck on that paper path. Examine the area closely and move every movable parts in there. Print something and when the paper start to crinkle, unplug your printer and look what's in the area where the crinkle starts.

If I am not mistaken, I think you are referring to the duplex roller and the thin plastic is holding the paper around the roller. If you have printed double sided before (when the plastic started to crack), the paper may have picked-up some small pieces of that plastic and carried to the paper exit. Avoid printing duplex until you replaced that part to avoid further damage to the printer.

I strongly suggest to bring your printer to an authorized service center and let them replace the part. But if you want to do it yourself, you may try these online sellers.

None of them listed the part number you needed but you may try to contact them directly and inquire if they have the part you need.

Why would paper be jamming or getting stuck on right side with black ink every time?

The rollers that advance the paper could have been messed up by the key, therefore crinkling paper and not advancing in proper timing with the ink. It also could have busted of the plastic gears in modern day printers.

When printing paper comes out all "crinkled" maybe roller problem?

It the paper comes out crinkled or accordion looking then it is your fuser. Check where your the paper comes out of. There might be a piece of paper jammed in there that is causing this. If no obstuctions then it might be the roller on the fuser cracking and cause it to crinkle the paper. The fuser is the last thing the paper goes through before coming out. It "fuses" the toner to the paper.

Go into the paper menu and set the multipurpose feeder paper size to letter. It will work if the paper size is set correctly for the MPF.

Envelopes

Make sure the paper type for the tray from which you print envelope is set to Envelope. If the printer doesn't know that an envelope is being printed, it will not turn on the "Envelope Enhance" feature. The Envelope Enhance feature pumps air out of the envelope before it enters the fuser and can prevent creasing in the envelope. However, keep in mind that any envelopes larger than a US Size 10 will most likely crinkle, with or without the Envelope Enhance

IBM infoprint 1422 won't feed through paper tray, only works with mp loader

Ok.... I have these printers at work...and i think i have figured this one out :
Under setup menu , goto configure mp , then switch the settings from cassette to manual. You see these printers are used at Hotels where the bottom tray is for legal size paper used to make key packets and the mp is used for regular sized paper printing reciepts....Hilton family hotels use them for example....the next thing I'm trying to figure out is how to set it so I won't have to push the go button every time I print something

Printer

This is an eye opener -- I always promised myself I wouldn't buy an all-in-one and I did.. I am on my 2nd model and now have the famous error 6A00 and 6800. Through much internet searching I found some advice -- more than I got from Canon. I went to the right side after gently moving the print head to the left and seached and there was a small piece of paper in there and I thought my problem was solved. I then printed only to find each sheet would feed incorrectly and the corner on the right side would fold for every sheet and then more paper ended up on the left side creating crinkled paper and finally the 6800 error. Nothing clears this error and now I am back to no printing. I have black fingers and am totally frustrated! My best advice -- if you are buying an all in one get the additional 3-yr contract and the thing will get replaced.

Printer only prints on the left side and wrinkles up the paper on the left side

Hi there it could be that the fuser or the drum unit has some sticky labels attached to it check these units also check the paper feed path as there may also be some obstruction causing the paper to crease and crinkle.

Hope I could help
Thanks J
