Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines
I have a whirpool awo/d 4505 washing machine. It stopped working just after we moved house in feb. The pump was just making a chugging noise and it wasnt doing much else so we cleaned pumped out and rinsed it through like it said in instructions. Now it has started to make a scrapy, grindy metallic noise when it turns like when a metal zip is being dragged around it. The noise is on and off when it turns and the machine has got louder when it spins. I have cleaned the pump again today (just let it drain and checked there was nothing blocking it) but it is still making the same noise. There are no warning lights on the front of the machine. Is there a problem with it? I know its not broken down yet but we really cant afford a new washer (or to flood the flat downstairs!) and hope if it is broken we can get it sorted before this happens.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Unplug your machine and unclip the plastic trim panel across the bottom of the machine (front) to reveal the circular pump filter cover. Unscrew this cover with your fingers and remove any debris inside. Put the cover back on, clip the panel back on and try your machine again. Should be fine.

The electric motor my have failed or a part called a capacitor could be the problem? The capacitor is part of the starting circuit of the electric motor, if this fails the motor will not start therefore the washing machine won't spin or agitate.

hello mam you cant clean the pump but you can clean the filter of the drain line. and if you want to clean it you should use a descaling powder this will be available with the washing machine service centers.

Testimonial: "cheers man , great help prob solved. "
take top off machine. look down right side and you will see a disc about 50 mm in diameter, attached to this is a small flexible rubber pipe, take this off at the disc and blow through it,( you will need some type of pipe to connect to the rubber pipe).this worked for me with the very same problem.
