Hello, Sheri.

Have you tried to change the power settings ?

Go to Control Panel > Power settings > Edit plan settings and click the Change advanced power settings. In the Balanced Settings, choose Sleep after 30 mins, Hybrid is Off, Hibernate Never, Allow Wake Timers should be enabled.

Hope this helps.

  1. Hit the Start Button and select Control Panel in the second, shaded column on the right.
  2. Select All Control Panel Items
  3. Make your way down to Power Options and click. (Alternately, select System and Security, then Power Options.)
  4. There are two options that are immediately available: Balanced (the default) and Power saver. Balanced turns off the display after 10 minutes of inactivity and puts your computer into sleep mode after 30 minutes. Power saver halves those times to 5 minutes and 15 minutes respectively.
  5. Not all hardware or applications handle sleep modes well, so the balanced needs to be turned off
  6. Open Show additional plans to display a third, High performance profile that shuts off the display after 15 minutes but never enters sleep mode.

The system locks because (even if you want to use the hibernate or sleep mode) the software you've installed may or may not be compatible. It isn't just an issue of windows sleeping. The applications and services have to be coded to stop accessing the drive, etc. Many apps on XP just don't like the drive spinning down.

There is also a pirated copy of Win7 that contains a badly written key-logger embedded in the crack. I'm not saying that the copy of Win7 you have is illegal, but it does also cause this issue. If that was the case though, you could probably get a different copy of Windows 7 from pirate bay and reinstall.

Make sure that you have all the latest chipset drivers installed. You need to update the BIOS.

Or

You can try resetting the BIOS by resmoving the CMOS battery for which you will have to open the laptop.

Acer one with windows 7 ultimate fall into sleep mode

A laptop computer is typically set to conserve battery power. One of the common settings called standby, sleep mode or hibernation turns off power to the screen and the laptop itself after a preset time limit passes without any mouse or keyboard activity. It can be inconvenient for the computer to shut down while you're working on an open page or during a download. Change the setting if you don't want your laptop to going into automatic shutdowns

Turn the laptop computer on with the power button if it's not set to turn on upon opening. Allow the system to boot up. Open the panel for adjusting the sleep settings. This varies among the popular versions of Windows operating systems. To change the sleep mode setting on a laptop running Windows XP, click the "Start" button, and click the "Control Panel" selection. Choose the "Performance and Maintenance" selection, and click on "Power Options." Click the "Power Schemes" tab, and click the drop downs next to "Turn Off Monitor," "Turn Off Hard Disk," "System Standby" and "System Hibernates." Select "Never" for each drop down in both the "Plugged in" and "Running on Battery Power" columns. Click the "Hibernate" tab and click to remove the check mark in the box next to "Enable Hibernation." To change the sleep settings on a Windows Vista laptop, click "Start," "Control Panel," "Systems and Maintenance" and "Power Options." Then click "Change Plan Settings" under the currently established plan. Click on the "Advanced Settings" tab and select the "Never" option on the "Sleep," "Sleep After," "Hibernate After," "Display" and "Turn off Display After" drop downs. Click the "OK" and "Save Changes" buttons to confirm the settings. To change the sleep settings on a laptop running Windows 7, click the "Start" button, choose "All Control Panel Items," select "Power Options" and click "Edit Plan Settings." Click the drop downs for "Turn off the Display" and "Put the Computer to Sleep." Choose "Never" for both and click the "Save Changes" button.

How can I enable hibernation on my HP Mini 5101?

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa, the world's largest product support community.

Generally all Windows OS has an option for sleep & hibernate.

Windows XP Users
  • Sleep Mode
By letting your computer idle for a period of time, i.e. not moving the mouse/touchpad, or not pressing any keys except when playing a video, the screen or desktop monitor will go dark. You can resume the computer by moving the mouse/touchpad or by pressing any key on the keyboard.
  • Hibernation or Standby mode
Click Start, click on Turn Off Computer, then click Stand By.

Windows VISTA/Windows 7 Users

To put Windows VISTA & Windows 7 in Sleep or in Hibernation, the steps basically the same. First click Start, then click the small arrow head located to the right of the Start Menu, then you click Sleep or Hibernate.

To put Windows 7 to Sleep or Hibernate, click the small arrow head right next the word Shut Down then click Sleep or Hibernate.

My toshiba laptop has gone into hibernation how would i get it out of hibernation please?

To get out of hibernation on all computers with Windows....you simply have to push the power button once and the system is supposed to come out of it. If it does not, power the laptop off, remove the ac adapter power and then remove the battery. Push the power button to bleed any residual power in the capacitors. Plug in the AC adapter and power the laptop back up. It it boots, go ahead and replace the battery. You then may have an issue with hibernation on that particular computer. My advice is to go to the control panel > power options > hibernation tab and uncheck usinf hibernation. Most modern computers do not need this if they are sleeping or if you just want to shut the system down. There have been more bad registry problems with hibernation than any other thing.

Can HP dv2715nr hibernate instead of being put on sleep mode?

  • Hi. "Yes," but putting the computer in the Hibernation State, can use up to 400MB of memory, and can be very "unstable to the system." You Can change the "Sleep, Hibernation, Wake-up...from the Start search window, Type Power, to open the Power Options. "If the solution helped, "Rating it is appreciated, thanks."

HP Pavillion won't bring monitor back from sleep mode

hi...if u can read " no input signal" from ur screen, this means that ur monitor is ok..
Look if u have power buttons on ur keyboard.. try to wake it from there.. some pc may have shortcut keys to bring back the pc... look @ ur pc docs on the internet for more info...
However if it's a hardware issue, it may be that ur RAM memory needs to be cleaned

When I select sleep or hibernate mode - the monitor stays black...

Hit the keyboard keys. It is better to just turn sleep and hibernate off and just use a screen saver or tun it off.
