Question about Janome Memory Craft 4900QC Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

I think I've bent something!

I let the loose threads get dragged down under the bed and it made some loud noises and gave the message 'stop for safety reasons'. I have cleared the threads, changed the needle and checked for debri but when I now try to sew the upper thread appears to hang up on the bobbin case and causes the same message. It make a dreadful noise and stops.

When you have the foot down ready for sewing, the needle thread , pull on it slowly and make sure there is resistance through the top tension, if there isnt any then the tread will ball up underneath

Error message "the safety device has been activated. Is the thread tangled? Is the needle bent?" Occurred after needle no 5 broke and fell out. The machine

If the safety has been activated, there is something wrong with the machine that could potentially be dangerous--to the machine or you. You should probably take it to a technician.

Why would machine make loud noise like machine gun. Stitching is fine but am afraid to use because it sounds like it is hitting something in casing.

Probably best to have the machine serviced. Sometimes a bent needle will make a racket if it is hitting under the needleplate. At any rate, it is probably better to get it fixed than injuring yourself or breaking the machine.

Messages about safe device activated & press the needle position button

The noise is because the machine is trying to raise or lower a needle and can't move. Several things to check. Did the needle break and jam in the bottom thread? Is the needle bent or jam? Did the thread jam in the bobbin area? I had a 'knot' of thread build up on the bottom and it hooked itself into the metal clip on the bobbin so that the needle couldn't raise. If thread jams in the bottom carefully cut the threads until you can free the hoop and material. Then check to make sure all pieces of thread and fuzz has been removed in the bobbin case. If it happens again check to see if the bobbin case or the throat plate is scratched or bent. If you are stitching Free Standing Lace on this machine or a piece with over 20,000 stitches I recommend starting with a new full bobbin and a new needle. As you get toward the bottom of the bobbin, thread seems to have a high likelihood of tangling or looping.

The timing is out on my consew 226R-1, how do I fix it?

Safety clutch may be disengaged. Push and hold down the right hand button on bed of machine and turn handwheel away from you until it comes to a stop. Still holding the button down, force the handwheel away from you until you hear a loud click. Release button and now see if you can pick up needle thread.

Babylock Esante stopped. Just makes loud noise but won't move even manually.

You probably have a jam. Start digging under the bobbin area.

If you get it all cleaned up under there... and it still won't move. Time for service by a pro. Could be something horrid like a bent shaft.

Good luck

try these suggestions, see if they will help

try changing thread--top & bobbin,, some thread does not stay good as some other does
usually needle have a flat side goes to the back of the machine, make sure the needle is pushed up into the needle holder--is it the right needle for the fabric
and even if it's a new needle, I'd try another new one,,it's possible it could be bent or blunt or warped
check the thread take up lever to see if the top thread is still on it, when the thread comes off the take up lever it can jam up a sewing machine
check the needle plate to see if there are any burrs on it

My elna 6005 keeps on stopping ande I get the message stop for safety purposes. I have just had my machine serviced and I really don't know what to do.

Something is not quite right. Double check everything...loose needle, plug ins, threading, bobbin area for loose threads, etc.

Keep in mind that you've jostled the machine moving it from the service to your home. It could be as simple as the bobbin race being out of alignment. If nothing you do works... take it back and give the the person who serviced it the "look." and make him/her fix it.
